severe stomach pain

Hello, I need some advice from anyone who can help me.  I am worried about my boyfriend.  He has these stomach spells that feel like his stomach is “burning and tearing and that someone has kicked him in the stomach or feels like a claw is grabbing and twisting his stomach from the inside.”  Sometimes they are accompanied by severe headaches, diarrhea, and/or muscle spasms starting in his legs and moving up to the back and shoulders.  He doesn’t always get all these symptoms at once.  His Dr. gave him muscle relaxers for the spasms but he doesn’t like to take them because he feels lethargic.  It seems to happen only in the morning (right when he wakes up or early (3am) while he is sleeping).  Nothing makes it go away; he just lies in bed, curled up in a ball or thrashing around in bed in pain while it passes.  It could take all day or a few hours.  He sometimes walks around the room but starts to dry heave and sometimes will throw up bile.  He has had his thyroid checked; he has been checked for lactose intolerance, Crohn’s disease, IBS, ulcers, diverticulitis, has had MRIs, and colonoscopies.  Stress and lack of sleep seem to make it worse but we can never predict it.  It has been going on for almost two years now.  He can go days or weeks with out having a spell but it has happened for the past 3 days straight.  He hasn’t left the bed except to go to the bathroom.  Please help!  Thank you

Has he been checked for pancreatitis or gall bladder disease? These tests require an ultrasound and HIDA scan. Also he should have his stool tested for infections. Also, I would have him go on a Gluten-free diet for a week and see if he feels any difference. He might have Celiac disease. Lastly, is there any chance he could have been exposed to viruses such as Hepatitis or AIDS?

I hope your boyfriend and doctors can discover the reason for his illness.
