stress

uk2
I have fibro and with it ibs, i've been through a really bad time recently with my husband leaving me with 3 children and i'm so bad with my fibro that i have 3 carers a day and am registed disabled.

My question is does stress effect ibs as i have found it is linked i am sure of it as well as it being bad around the time of the month, the pain in my tummy is shooting stabbing pains that make me double over and happen whenever they like, what causes the pain?

Thank you for your comments.

I take vit b and find that helps i also take fiber gel and when my stomach was really bad i used to drink aloe vera juice i got from a health store and found that really helped.

I only ever drink still bottled water and i try to stay mobile but my fibro is in a chronic flare plus i have disk problems from a car accident, but i have started hydrothearpy and hope this will help although the last session sent me into a huge flare, but i will try again.

Thanks i will try the pro-biotics not sure what the other two are? but will do a search on them.

take care

you know far be it from me to say this cause i have ibs and i suffer from flare's of fibro as well but a lot of these issues are related to digestion as a whole and i feel that once that is in order healing will take place.

u should try digestive enzymes with meals
l-glutamine once a day
pro-bioticts twice a day    give them time
a good well balanced diet
exercise
plenty of fresh distilled water every day
omega 3 ,6,9,
b vits    b12 esp

try and incorporate these in your meals everyday --it will make a difference in time and is a healthy way to improve .

take care and keep in touch

Hi thank you for your answer, sorry it's been so long to return i've had a bad flare and been in bed for a few days.

As fibro is a disorder of the central nervous system it makes sense that most fibro's suffer with ibs as the signals are going out all wrong, i get the crammping and spasm in my stomach but never get diarahoa (excuse spelling) but just consipation and since being in chronic pain most of the meds make me even more consipated and being inactive does not help either, so i take laxertives (excuse spelling) and relay on theses as if not i dont go for days and then when i do go its so painfull i bleed loads and feel so ill. i also have a huge pile that just wont go away.

i drink lots of water eat fresh fruit and veg, i'm worried now my bowels are just so reliant on this system of taking laxertives and as long as i'm on these drugs and inactive i will have to take them so will this ruin my bowels and cause me big problems.

hi sam
sorry to read of your troubles having fibro and trying to raise kids on your own is difficult and i can see where the stress lays.i wish u every good thing that could come your way.
not that said stress and ibs walk hand in hand together but which comes first is a long debate but if we look at the digestive system part of it you will see how stress inc anxiety plays havoc  with our stomach as a whole
the belief that digestive disturbances arise from problems with our emotions is well known and one of these disturbances would be ibs thats where the saying ''i'm having difficulty stomaching this comes from '''so when somebody is stressed for a long period not just every odd day it effect's the neurotransmitters in the brain and in the gut so now it is accepted that brain-gut neurotransmitters infuence each other and when this is chronic it results in ibs type symptoms --as in constipation/diarrhea
spasms in the gut due to muscles contracting at the wrong time /trapped gas etc
so if u look at the effect of stress on the digestive tract there would be
dry mouth
shallow breathing
insufficient stomach acid
pancreatic insufficiency
altered flora
disturbed gut hormones etc
all these in themselves will cause problems with digestion of food and when digestion is impaired well ibs as it is called will naturally occur.
most of the pain in ibs comes from trapped wind and from contracting muscles in the bowel everybody gets these but in people with ibs the bowel is just more sensitive sometimes to certain foods etc.
have u tried taking digestive enzymes with your meals its a good place to start also drink plenty of water--probioicts are excellent but take time to work.try eating wholefoods nothing from cans and not processed.
if stress is a big issue in your life try and finds ways to cope or to release it.if u can exercise that would be a great help.if u cant u know painting, reading, writing, there are loads of things if u think about it to help but in the long run it is best to get under control for yourself no body else.

good question
i hope that helps
all the best  let us know
