Kidney Infection

Hi there,

Just thought if any of you could help me!

I went into hospital last october with a kidney infection. It was bad and didnt go for a long time. They did a scan and it showed scarring on both kidneys. This passed and all was fine until a month ago, I started having back pain again and discomfort when weeing then the pain started to go higher up my back, I went into hospital in agony and was immediatly put on a drip of iv antibiotics and given pain relief. after a week they had changed the antibiotics - as they didnt work and gave me some more, these helped abit but upon discharge I was still in pain, I also had a very swollen ankle to the point where I couldnt walk. since coming out of hospital I still have a painful back, its very tender under my bra strap and gives me limited movement, my ankle and knee are massive and I feel generally unwell. I think I remember them saying my kidney function was ok however my question is....Is all this swelling related to my kidneys???I am seeing a specialist at the end of the month however I am in alot of discomfort and wanted to know your thoughts.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys

Vicki

Yikes, I would maybe get a second opinion. It seems to me that you would leave the hospital AFTER you're feeling well, not get sent home feeling miserable. Especially if you're still in pain. I might have your urine tested again and see if the antibiotics really did take care of your infection or if it's still a problem. Plus they should be able to tell you WHY you're all swollen. I know some medications can cause swelling, I experienced that when I was induced in labor with my little baby five months ago. But I don't think it should still be going on for you...maybe get better help or another opinion.

have you had calcium levels checked for abnormalities? - Take a look at the parathyroid site and see if you have any of these underlining conditions.

You could have issues there that is causing your kidney issues.

Bloating and swelling is a symptom too.
