Kidney Stones Pain. Advice?

I am a 23 year old male. So, for the past month and a half I have had pain in my right flank, mainly in my abdomen under my ribcage. The pain continues from that point around to my back. Then it extends down to lower abdomen and groin area. I have had one ultrasound, confirmed a kidney stone.
Then I had a CT scan which confirmed a few kidney stones. I felt alot better. Stomach problems went away. Fast foreward a couple weeks later and I am in alot of pain again. Horrible bloating, Nausea, Horrible stomach and back pains. I went to the ER on Friday, Doc gave me a CT scan, blood work, urine sample. Everything came back good, no blood in urine, no infection present. I just have a few kidney stones present in my upper kidney, 2-3mm each. Went to primary doc today, he gave me a Demerol shot and pain killers which sometimes don't even touch the pain and gave me a referal to a urologist.

Problem is, I have no obstruction. The stones are not moving since a month and a half ago. Every GP I have seen keeps telling my I should not be having pain if there is no obstrucion. They say, everything looks good. I should not be having pain. So apparently I am crazy!

Help? Advice? Experiences? :(

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

This could be renal colic. Small stones can obstruct the passage of urine and when the body tries to 'push' against the blockade this results in colic, which is severe attacks of pain. The small stone could have passed through, hence the obstruction may not be detectable.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Well, today I found out it is not Kidney stones that are causing me the pain. Rather Gallbladder is not functioning properly. I was hospitalized with severe pain two days ago and released yesterday. Had a HIDA scan which confirmed my gallbladder is no longer working properly. So I am going to be having surgery to remove it on Wednesday. Thanks for your help again.

I grew up in small towns so I know the drill. If you want to see a professional anything you have to drive to it. I am lucky that now I live in a small city and we have at least one of most specialties. For some things though we still have to drive three hours to the bigger city.

Hope the wait isn't too long. If you haven't heard from them in a week and a half - call your doctor back.

Thanks for your response,
Yea. This is the third time I have had Kidney stones. The first time however, I do remember having alot of pain for a month or more, then an excruciating attack when it got stuck when it tried to pass.

It feels exactly like I am passing a stone. Intense pain all the time, on and off, but always there. But once again the doctors think I shouldn't be having pain cause the stones aren't obstructing my Ureter.

However, CT's and Ultrasound show nothing more. So, like you said, hopefully the urologist can pin point exactly why I am having this pain. I also can't call the Urologist as I don't know the number. The doctor just said that he will have them give me a call. They are a urologist out of town, cause our town ***** and doesn't have any. lol.

I would phone the urologist office and ask to be placed on their cancellation list as this sometimes gets you in quicker.

Because it doesn't make a lot of sense that if there is no obstruction, there shouldn't be that much pain. I've only had one kidney stone (thank goodness) and it got caught in a kink in the ureter. It just sat there and rotated for three days. They finally put a stent in and then it passed. Boy was that painful.

I hope the urologist has some answers for you.
