Stage 4 Kidney Disease

My father is 87 and been on stage 4 for a couple of years now. His blood pressure is ok and his legs not really swollen much at the moment. I am wondering how long he may continue at this level before further symptoms.?

Hi Dr Sharma
Thank you for reply. The dietary info is useful. Dad is already taking a Calcium and Vitamin D supplement. He has a blood test soon when they will check for anaemia.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.
In patients with chronic kidney disease you need to limit fluids, eat a low-protein diet, restricting salt, potassium, phosphorous, and other electrolytes and at the same time get sufficient calories. Few dietitians specialize in kidney diets. Your dietitian can help you create a diet to fit your needs. There have been few studies which found that low protein diets can delay end‐stage kidney disease. You may need calcium supplements to prevent bone disease and vitamin D to maintain calcium balance. Iron supplements may be needed if there is anemia. For more queries consult your doctor since he knows your medical records best and the associated risks also. Hope it helps. Keep me posted.
Take care and good luck!
