kidney atrophy

I recently had an abdominal ultra sound for gall stones and inadvertently learned that my right kidney is atrophied.
This came as a surprise to me as I have never had any kidney problems and kidney blood work is always within normal range. I'm wondering if this could be hereditary as my father had an atrophic kidney that he also learned about after having a test for an unrelated condition. He never received treatment for his kidney because he died of colon cancer shortly after.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Do I need more test? or is this something that is just a benign anomaly that may never cause any trouble!
Any one have a similar situation or any advise
