kidney infection??

I was recently diagnosed with a uti and have been on cipro since Saturday. On Sunday night I started having a throbbing lower back pain which made it difficult to sleep. Monday morning my back felt better, but then it started again Monday evening. Felt much better Tuesday morning and felt like the uti was clearing up too. Even felt good enough to go to my exercise class. After the class the throbbing began again and it was pretty concentrated in my lower right side. I have looked at symptoms of kidney infection and the only part that fits is the throbbing back pain. No fever, no nausea or vomiting, chills. I am fatigued, but I haven't been sleeping well because if the throbbing pain. I have been drinking plenty of fluids, cranberry juice and lots of water. I hate to waste the money on another doctor visit if they are just going to give me a muscle relaxer for back pain.

Hi there,
In urinary tract infection backache is very common. Bladder infection, pyelonephritis are other causes of lower back ache. You may take a muscle relaxant for pain relief. An ultrasound scan may be helpful in detecting if there is any kidney stone or anatomic /structural problem with the kidneys. Other causes of backache are injury or overuse of muscles, ligaments, and joints. It is suggested to get evaluated by your attending doctor. A clinical examination and work up will be extremely helpful. Keep me posted.
Best luck and regards!
