kidney pain?

Hi,

I have been having left sided loin pain for the past few months. At first onset it was more contant, stabbing and dull ache. I went to the family doctor, had bloods and urine test done. All came back normal. Since then I have had the occasional stabbing pain, and thought nothing of it. It has however started to flare up again, the stabbing is getting worse, more frequent several times today, and a few more over the last few days. Im really scared that it could be something serious, but dont want to cause a fuss at the doctors for no reason. I have no real past medical history though am bulimic, normally this causes abdo pain, not pain like this (currently waiting for treatment, so please dont lecture me).

Any advice would be greatfully recieved

You should have a colonoscopy to check for things like diverticulosis.  It sounds like constipation.  There are many things to try, depending on severity.  First off, try a probiotic or prebiotic like Align.  Try metamucil with lots of water.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.
I know its not constipation.
I perhaps wasnt clear with the abdo pain... i know that is a symptom of my ed but this flank pain is different, the abdo pain is when i eat to much etc, this is totally different... there most of the time now. Could it be another warning sign to tell me to stop? Electrolyte problems? Kidney problems?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

This could be renal colic. Small stones can obstruct the passage of urine and when the body tries to 'push' against the blockade this results in colic, which is severe attacks of pain. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. Please consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests, x- rays and may ask for an ultrasonogram to find out the cause for the pain.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
