kidney problems

Hello,
I'm just a bit curious about some test results i got back. My GFR levels are low, 46mL/min. I also have high creatinine (127) the normal ranges are between 45-90. When i had the test done i had extreme back pain around the area of my kidneys. I'm a 22 year old woman, i have normal blood pressure and no other health problems, any suggestions?

egfr of 48 is very low, it is mid way through stage 3. However, if you had a kidney infection at the time this WOULD effect the egfr. it should be repeated

I would see a nephrologist if I were you soon. Your GFR is low but not severely low and you need to knnow whats causing this. It could be medications, etc. Right now you need to avoid ibuprofen and all NSAIDS as they are filtered through the kidneys and drink alot of clear fluids. Make sure you tell your doctor or nephro, all meds, including over the counter ones, you are taking. Bring them all with you at your appt.

Agreed... you should have a Urologist test your kidney-function.

High creatinine is generally a good indicator of poor kidney-function, or at the very least, reduced kidney-function.

Good luck to you.

gfr measures your kidney function.. low filtration rate is suggestive that your kidney has not been working very well.. creatinine is fairly reliable indicator of kidney function.. so the high value of your creatinine may be because of your kidney.
