Confused about my 4mm kidney stones :)

Hi every one,

Just seven months ago, I’ve been told I have two kidney stones in my kidneys (each with one stone). Today, I went online and I saw this web site; I’m new here and I am not sure that I can ask my question here or not. But based on the other questions I saw here, I decided to ask it. I would be very thankful if anyone can help me with that:

About eight months ago I felt a very mild pain in my back, both sides, just a few centimeters behind the last bone of my chest. I went to sonographer and he told me I have two kidney stones in my kidneys (one 4 mm in each kidney). From that day, despite that the doctor prescribed me some drugs, I did nothing except drinking a huge amount of water (I hope you can imagine what I mean from the word “huge”).

Just two days ago, I went to the same doctor to tell me about the (increase in the) size of the stones. Surprisingly, he told me there is nothing in my kidneys and they are clear. At that moment I was the happiest man on earth. But …
Just today, I felt the same very mild pain (in ten scale it is number 2 or 3)!!!

Despite the fact that the laboratory tests of my blood and urine say there is no other possible problems with my kidneys, I have no idea what is going one.

I would be thankful if anyone can help me with this situation. Does anyone experience the same problem?

Best,

How are you doing 2 years later?  Sometimes small stones can be missed on ultrasound .. did they do an u/s or CT Scan?  Even CT Scans can miss stones.  I had a 5mm (yes good size) play hide and seek ... would be there and then not show up on other imaging studies until one day it obstructed.  Then there was proof it was there.  Feel better!  C~

Ask them to check your gall bladder sometimes if it is swollen or starting to cause problems it will radiate pain to the other side. Good Luck and God bless

Usually if you are having pain, the stones are not in the kidneys but have exited the kidneys and are now in the ureter. So the doctor saying your kidneys are clear is not surprising if you are having pain.  Be thankful though that if your kidneys are clear of stones then that should mean that the episode you are currently having will be it once they pass and no more are sitting in the kidneys waiting their turn.
