Need Help Making Decision

My mom, who is 82 years old, has a kidney stone and also fluid around her kidney. The doctors told me they have to drain the fluid before lithotripsy. He gave me 2 choices. Either insert a stent to drain the fluid or insert an external tube to drain the fluid.

From what I am reading online the stent is painful and there are a lot of side effects. This is a hard decision for me to make and I am asking for advise and experiences with these 2 procedures.  Thank you everyone.

cactuscatie,

I'm not sure that either procedure is going to be without discomfort. I've had a stent twice in my life as a result of kidney stone removal procedures and although there was minor discomfort, it really wasn't that bad. I am a male though. A female's view of a stent may be somewhat different. I know nothing of the other procedure he told you about. Which did the doctor tell you had less discomfort for your mom?
