Stent

I have not passed a 4mm K/S that dropped into my left ureter on 5-11-16 I was in great pain when it first dropped down, CT scan showed it was about in inch or so into ureter, pain went away in the hospital, so I went home. the following night almost the same level of pain in the same area (flank then back) it went away after about 15-20 minutes. This is my 3rd K/S in 3 years, the others passed no problem.

Went to my kidney Dr (stage 3 kidney disease) he said kidneys were stable & to see a urologist. Urologist set me up for stone removal on 6-22 He did not mention a stent until I brought it up. I forgot to ask him if he is able to get K/S out do they still leave the stent in, assuming I need a stent. If the stone passes before then he said we will just cancel the procedure. I don't mind them going up there to remove it, but am leery about them leaving the stent in there if they get the stone out, don't know what the purpose is. What am I missing here?

Also been having loose stool and some diarrhea since the K/S pain. Dr said the two are not related?
Right now I am in no pain whatsoever, just discomfort from the irregular bowl movements. This has me concerned.

I am moving around as much as possible, drinking almost a gallon of water a day and have not changed my diet except for Oxalate foods. I was eating over 1/2 cups of nut every single night and the same amount of shell pumkin seeds. I am type 2 diabetic, these snacks are permissible for a diabetic, but when I saw the Oaxalte content I quit eating the a day after the this latest issue. Nut contain no salt at all and the seed have light sea salt.

Comments welcome

Thank you for the reply UB. That is the earliest he can do it, I will go in as an out patient. He said in the mean time it may pass, boy that would be nice. OK on the reason of leaving the stent in. Not worried about them taking it out. I am no macho man, but I have had numerous surgeries so pain for a minute or so I can deal with. Can't be than when I was in ER. I will take a few pain killers though before. As for peeing after I have used a pill called Pyridium, it help me the last time I was scoped out. I can only use it for a day or so because I am in stage 3 chronic KD.

How much of a chance is there that they don't need to use a stent, can it be possible he can see it, and can grab it without cutting the ureter, or if it is stuck that usually means ureter has to be cut or it would have come out on it's own by now, if so, I think I answered my own question as far as the cutting of the ureter and reason for a stent. The other two I passed were not bad, I could not understand why everyone said pass a K/S was like having a baby, well, now I know now. Oh yeah 69 is my age!

Thank you again for the reply I was looking for, you explained it perfectly.

garyseven,

I believe that the "69" behind your name means your age! Correct?  Anywho, why is your doctor waiting until June 22 to go get that stone for you? I'd sure ask him why, if I were you. Be that as it may, don't worry about the stent. They will probably put in as stent until your ureter heals from the surgery your doctor will do getting that stone. They may have to cut your ureter slightly and the stent will allow it to heal up fine. When it heals up, you'll have another appointment after your ureter heals in which the nurse will then remove the stent. When you go in for that, my only advice is to take a deep breath and bare it! Afterwards urination may cause you some burning for a couple of days from the inside of your penis due to the stent removal but that too shall pass. Good Luck.
