Swollen Lymph Nodes..

Hi. I am 16. Last year when I was in my spanish 3 class at school, I leaned my head over and fela huge swollen gland. It was so large I fel embarassed and kept it covered. I went to the doctor and he said it was a lymph node and it was probably from an infection. Took antibiotics and the swelling went down but I can still fell and see the lymph node. A few weeks later I then discovered another lump on the other side of my neck below my jaw. It felt the same as the other one and we went to see the doctor. He gave me more antibiotics but this one never shrunk. I was referred to a otorhinolaryngologists (ORL). He was puzzled and had a sonogram of my neck done. Indeed I had slightly swollen lymph nodes. He decided that it was possibly an infection. Put me on a Azythromicin (Z-pack) and the swelling never went down. He then scheduled a biopsy of the left side, the original lymph node. I got to the surgical center and was put on the IV and was being prepared. He came in for a last check and said he thought it might be best to watch and see because the lymph node was on my jaw line and he did not want to risk cutting my facial nerve. It has been a year and a half and no exact answers yes.

I now have a lump on my left flank (side) and my right flank. I also have swollen lymph nodes in my groin area. I notice the in class I will sweat in my armpits and it makes me cringe. I wear anti-persperant deoderant. I have also noticed that I have gotten extremely irritable. I am also tired alot of the time. I will find myself waking up and not knowing when I fell asleep. I might have been online chatting to a friend and then waking up laying on my keyboard and not remembering falling asleep. I also have noticed a stiff back and neck especially when taking a shower and standing.

I saw a dermatologist for my acne and she felt my lymph node and told me to go see an ORL again but they again just said your lymph nodes are reactive and that there is nothing to worry about. I also have times where I feel like my whole body is on fire, and I tingle and can't end up shaking. I also get extremely cold and shake.

Blood tests have all come back normal except for a slightly high red-count which the doctor's said can be because my parents smoke.

I have a family history of lymphoma, hodgkins and non-hodgkins in an early age. One uncle had Hodgkins and was in his twenties. The other had Non-Hodgkins and was in his early twenties as well.

Not sure what to do next...I don't want to end up having cancer and being diagnosed late.

I am wondering how Justin is doing, now. I am also wondering about the leaky gut, because my daughter has been having a similar thing going on, and she has colitis, which makes the gut more 'permiable', in that it is damaged. Have your lymph swellings gone down, Justin? How are you feeling? And the guy who said he had leaky gut, have you altered your diet and are you feeling better?

let me tell you those  are some stupid doctors!! they are rich for treating people and they cant help you at all ! they need to just say they dont know and give you back your damn money!! i am extremely serious!! what your problem is! and i know because i had everysingle symptom, and still have only a lil acne, is you immune system! i have a low igg count which is assosiated with swollen lymph nodes and being unable to fight off infection! now if you get tested and they are high this means they are working their best to fight. heres the problem  LEAKY GUT!!!! RESEARCH IT AND GO TO A GI DOCTOR AND A ALLERGY DOCTOR! MAKE SURE THEY HAVE HEARD OF LEAKY GUT!!! WHEN I EAT CERTAIN FOODS MY IGG COUNTS GO UP BECAUSE THE FOOD GOES INTO THE BLOOD STREAM, BUT IF I STAY AWAY MY IGG DROPS TO LOW! THIS IS BECAUSE OF A GUT INFECTION OR LACK OF GOOD BACTERIA IN GUT, THE IGG'S ARE BUSY WORKING IN THE GUT! SO THIS SHOULD LITERALLY SAVE YOU LIFE IF YOU HAVNT FOUND AN ANSER YET!!

I got my second opinion..

The second surgeon said that he didn't believe they were abnormally large and he had an explanation for the lipomas...

He said that because I am so thin..I only weigh about 125 pounds that my lymph nodes were probably going to be felt. He said that the bigger you are the harder it gets to feel them and since I am small I am able to feel them without a problem.

He then said that because I am so small that the fat that is on my body is hard, dense, and rubbery. He said the fat would seem like a pencil eraser..hard to cut into. He said that would explain the lipomas.

As for anyone else here..We waited because we were told I was fine but more popped up and because of my family history, we worried. Diane, I would seek another doctor and possibly do some research and see if your doctor can tell you who may know what is going on if they can't figure it out..

JustinH1991 has similar problem to my oldest daughter age 25 who started out a year and half ago with an acute onset of headache and problems with gate on right side and high fevers. She was seen by two neurologist and alot of test but no diagnosis. She has developed on going fevers, severe headaches that no medication helps, very tired, swollen hands and feet. From time to time she experiences severe vomiting. Battles with passing out spells suddenly. In August 2007 she had a hard lymp node appear on left side of neck along with smaller ones throughout her body. She was treated with antibotics several times no help. The lymph node was removed in Oct and surgeron said appeared abnormal with sponge hard pale gray appearance. We were not told of hyperplasia cells found until we requested information for another opinion. She has seen a infectious disease physician and last o onocolgist. She was told no autoimmune diseases found by infectious disease doctor. Oncologist did a bone marrow biopsy and found no cancer cells however low iron. CT prior showed various lymph nodes throughout with on suspious lymph node near rt ovary measured 1.5 cm. Blood work always show high hemglobin for a women between 15 and 18 which makes no since with low iron. She continues to have same symptoms no relief and now lymph node back in area removed. No one seems to have the answer or care. What should we do? We are paying an arm and a leg with no answers. We just want her better. Please help!

Hi.
You are right.  Lipomas are benign tumors of fatty origin and is located superficial to the skin.  These are different from the lymph nodes in your neck and groin, as your CT scan confirmed.
Please post your updates.
For the meantime, try to relax and not to worry too much.

I will be getting a second opinion this upcoming thursday from another surgeon.

We are not sure if the ones in my side are lymph nodes but we know the ones in my groin and neck are.

What have been in my sides are what my doctor keeps calling "Lipomas" or fatty tumors. I just don't understand why I have like 6 of these limpomas in my side and then like 4 on the other side. I also have more groin lymph nodes than I previously had and they go more into my thigh and can be sore if I press hard enough.

There is a lump in my armpit now...it feels like the ones in my side...not like a lymph node...

This is scaring me.

Hi.
From my understanding, you went for a second opinion.  How was it?  What did he suggest?
I still believe you need a biopsy done since you you have progressive enlargement of the lymph nodes, as well as appearance of new lymph nodes.

Went to the surgeon. He again wants to wait. I now have three lumps in my right side and a couple in my left.

Mom is calling around for a second opinion because she is tired of waiting and not getting a defininite answer to what is going on.

Got the CT scan today. He was able to find most of the lymph nodes. He said they were "border-line normal."

The biggest was 0.99cm and the smallest was 0.76cm

These are fairly close to being considered abnormal so he wants to get another CT in 6 months to have something to compare off of.

Surgeon will be next week on thursday at 2pm eastern. The radiologist recommended possibly have an groin lymph node taken out since it is easily accessed and not as risk since it is not in the neck or near a facial nerve.

I will post them as they come. I have a feeling the surgeon won't get me into his office for a while as it seems they are the most busy these days.

I also agree with the Cat scan. My ORL originally said it is possibly they are growing into the neck and all we feel is what is poking out so he wanted to get exact measurements of the whole lymph nodules.

Hi.
I agree with the decision to have a CT scan and biopsy done.
That will give a more definite diagnosis of what you are experiencing.
Post your updates.
Good luck.

Just went to the doctor today. She thinks it would be best to go ahead with the CAT scan of the neck and to go back to my surgeon and have a couple removed for testing and to make sure they are lipomas. She said it is very very rare for lymph nodes to be in that area but it can happen. She seemed non-concerned but she also wants to make sure.

She also suggested waiting and seeing as my acne is cleared up to see if there is a change in the lymph nodes. She said sometimes acne can drain into them. But my dermatologist said that is a very very unusual thing to happen with acne. He said to get it checked out again.

GRRR haha

Hi.
A CT scan of the chest and abdomen may be done in order to document presence or absence of lymph nodes within the chest and abdominal cavities.
Lipomas are benign tumors and are superficial to the skin.
Since you have a progressive enlargement of lymph nodes, as well as increase in number, it would be best to have a biopsy done.
I would also suggest to have a second opinion from another doctor for further evaluation.

Well I just felt my side and it appears I have more of these lumps. My doctor thinks they are limpomas and said that lymph nodes in that region are deep and it is very unusal and very very rare to fell them unless they are on the rib cage, Mine are slightly below. I have discovered my left side feels quite lumpy.
