Hi again.
I understand what you both are going through.
The biopsy will help determine whether your friend has lymphoma or not.  Based on the histologic appearance as evaluated by the pathologist, it can be determined whether the lymphoma is hodgkin’s or non-hodgkin’s type.  If the biopsy is inconclusive, immunostaining may help.
Hopefully his diagnostic tests will finally determine the cause of his symptoms.
Take care and God bless.

He had the MRI on Monday but they c ouldn't do the pelvis as his back hurt too bad. He got the abd finished. Went to the VA this morn and they had a surgeon see him and said he has lymph nodes in  hip area and under right arm they  are going to take out  on the 29th and told him he has lymphoma which could be malignant.  I can't understand why the PET scan earlier this year didn't show anything and will this biopsy show non hodgkins or hodgkins?  I have read so much I am confused at this point and he is totally depressed which is understandable. Nothing was said to him about the c olon or endo which I don't understand, just surprised him with a surgion on board.

Hi Shado.
When will the biopsy result be available?  I’m assuming that the doctor saw something during the procedure and he did the biopsy in the area of concern.  This will help a lot in arriving at a diagnosis.
Please do bring the results of the endoscopy, MRI, and biopsy to your father’s doctor.  Please post it here also.
Stay positive.

HI,
They did the endo and colon yesterday  and  took biopsy of both. Dr said there was a blockage in the esophagus but didn't give an opinion-just took a biopsy. Doing an MRI of chest, abd. and pelvis on Monday. This has been dragging out since June  and I don't understand what is taking VA so longl. Very concerned as he seems to be gtting weaker.

HI,
They did a biopsy on his arm where most of the itching  was and you could see small raises u nder the skin.  He is having upper endo and colonoscopy  this morning. Hopefully this will show some answers as he sseems  to be wasting away.  I will  keep you updated.
Thank you   Shado

Hi again.
Was there any biopsy done already?
Lymphoma could either be non-hodgkin or hodgkin.  The symptoms are basically the same, with the appearance of enlarged lymph nodes most of the time.  The distinction is based on the histologic appearance of the biopsy specimen, as determined by the pathologist.
Good luck on his endoscopy.
Please do post your updates.
Take care.

Thank you Dr. D.  Also his red cell ct has dropped from 16 to 11 since June. He is having a upper endo and coloscopy tomorrow Oct 8. I just feel the Drs. have waited too long with all these symptoms. cough, weight loss and red cell ct. He goes to the VA and I have tried to get him to follow up with a Dr for a 2nd opinion but won't  as he believes in the VA
This has gone on since June and he has gone from 185  to 155 lbs. He is 78 yrs old and I am afraid  of the outcome. I was thinking possible Hodgkins   hope I am w rong with   all my other thoughts.
Thanks for answering and am I right thinking Hodgkins????

Hi Shado.
The symptoms of weight loss and itching, as well as the presence of 2 lymph nodes in the chest are non-specific.  Both benign and malignant conditions can produce these.  A pulmonary infection like tuberculosis can produce enlargement of lymph nodes in the chest, as well as result in significant weight loss.  Lymphoma and carcinoma are also considered based on your description of the signs and symptoms.
Hope this helps.
