CMV and Fatty Liver

Hi, 2 weeks ago I started feeling unwell. A cough started without any other symptoms, then the Temperatures started with sweating during the night. Fatigue and loss of appetite then started.

I saw my Dr but she was unsure and just put it down to a viral infection. Within 2 days I went to the hospital as I was very unwell by then. No blood tests had been done at this time.  Hospital thought it was just viral as well.

Last Monday, I went back to my Dr and asked for a blood test due to the coughing and temps and sweating. My bloods showed, elevated ALP 170 (20-150), GGT 122 (5-35), LD 586 (120-250), AST 148 (10-35), ALT 199 (5-30), Albumin 33 (37-48). Lymphocytes 4.05 (1.0-4.0), Atypical Lymphocytes 1.08 ( 0-0.01). I was not tested for CMV (Cytomegalovirus ) however it came back positive. Avidity <10%.  I then had another blood test on Wednesday and got the results yesterday for Hep A, B, C and HIV.... I have no immunity for Hep B and antibodies for Hep A. however these apparently came back as all negative (thank god). Today I went and had an Ultrasound for the Liver, results .. Fatty Liver.

So now my question is... what the hell is going on in my body.... I know I have CMV that is confirmed, it now shows I have Fatty Liver... but my Dr thought I might of had a Viral Hepatitis (this was before the scan, which she hasn't seen the results for yet.  I found a post on here concerning the same type of thing. The one thing that does worry me now is, my immune system might be shot... immunosuppressed..... great.. and the explanation for the other lady was.. it could be HIV... but I have been cleared for that and as CMV is a Herpes virus could this be the cause of the immune suppression?

I am 47, overweight, but active... I don't exercise but I do keep busy with work ... although I do get tired very easier.  Hx. of Ross River Fever from 15 years ago.. (bloody Mosquitos) ...

Thank you so much for the information. I have done a fair bit of research since posting this on here.  It seems I have a primary infection and now need to see an Immunologist asap due to the fact that I also have HTLV which was found after donating blood in 2011. My immune system is down and yes I need to try and fix that now.

Hi, Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus that can infect almost anyone. Most people don't know they have CMV because it rarely causes symptoms. However, if you're pregnant or have a weakened immune system, it is a cause for concern as this infection can then affect the intestines, liver, lung and nervous system. So, this infection does not lower the immune system, but affects those with lowered immune system due to other causes. Treatment is needed in immunocompromised patients and it's most often in the form of antiviral drugs. Antiviral drugs slow down the virus reproduction, but can't destroy it. Regards.
