Can long-term Ambien/Zolpidem use affect the lliver?

My wife has been Zolpidem (generic Ambien) for 20+ yrs. She recently took a job in China and has been told the ultrasound show 'fatty infiltration of the liver'. She is 50 yrs old and drinks only occasionally and excercises and eats well/healthy for the most part. Could her long-term use of Zolpidem have contributed to this liver problem?

you should look up the prescribing information online and check out the metabolism excretion section of the document. If Ambien is metabolized via the liver which would be hepatically (like tylenol) then there may be something to your thought. if it's not metabolized via the liver then probably not-

I am not in the medical field in any capacity. I'm just a patient.

I seriously doubt long term use of Ambien is a factor.

I wouldn't be surprised, though being overweight is a known cause of fatty liver.  The good news is that the condition is reversible.
