Liver Biopsy problems

I recently had a liver biopsy. After I left the hospital I suffered and struggled both mentally and physically. The pain was so bad I probably should have gone to the hospital. But I had, along with my pain, my mental confusion and fear of getting hurt worse, so I did not go to the Emergency Room. Now I am not so sure what is happening but my health is different than before the biopsy. I am not sure what to ask but I have pain in the middle right under my chest and when I cough or sneeze I have to hold that area to reduce the pain. I hope that my Billinary ducts were not damaged or something else. Is it possible that the Biopsy needle might have broken off in my liver or part of it.

I live in Las Vegas and I had a liver biopsy done Jan 2012 it was my first time. I went back to the ER 5 hours after the biopsy and since then tell today between ER and urgent care about 15 times for Severe Pain in the Bipsy area Shooting up to my Right Shoulder. they do what they do best sometimes X-ray or CT and give me pain killer and since there is no internal bleeding they tell me to go and see my GI..... I'm in pain tell today and I can't find help my options are limited because of my insurance. I take pain medication daily since then ...I lost 20 lbs...I lost my job and on disability. I can't drive, left anything, sleep or walk sometimes...its funny I'm actully crying as I'm typing this...I think I have to stop for now....I wish you best luck and would like to hear from you or any body that would like to share his or her experiance...

I had a liver biopsy 7 days ago, my 3rd in 13 years. The first was nothing, the second I remember thinking "I don't remember this pain the first time". Well this time hurt so bad, increased pain, shortness of breath and pain in the right shoulder. I went to the E.R. the next morning (almost 24 hours after the biopsy). The hospital did a chest x-ray and CT scan. 6 hours later I'm told "everything looks fine, but you have pneumonia in your left lung?. I left in as much pain as I came in with and very frustrated. I had 15 breaks on the left side 25 years ago and after laying on that side for 6 hours because I could not lay on my back or right side, I now feel like I've been kicked in the ribs on the left side, and the biopsy still hurts tho not as much as the left. I think they saw scar tissue on the left and hit a nerve during the biopsy. Can you have pneumonia with absolutely no symptoms. Thanks for listening, frustrated in Phoenix.

I had a liver biopsy over sixty days ago I am feeling like something sharp is in my liver area. The pain is frightening I do not know what to do. I feel so stupid for trusting the doctor. I also feel very sick and my health is not good any more I do not know what I should do I am not going to go back to those doctors.

thank you for your input i dont know why I didnt join this forum long ago because i have felt so alone in this. I to think our Doctors are so afraid to treat patients for fear of not getting paid have they forgotten their oathes? i know there are good Doctors out there and I intend on finding one that has my best interests at heart instead of their pockets.

I hope that your liver also heals up. I have read about a blood test called the Fibrosure and it is just as good as the liver biopsy. I urge doctors and hospitals to start having better less expensive less harmful health care. I think that the medical profession has run amuck. I protest over chargeing people and acting like the doctors have the right to hurt people that are trying to find health care. I want bad doctors to stop  hurting people. I want American Doctors Doctors everywhere to grow into a more integrated part of living in our society. I think it is time for doctors.

your not alone when they did my biopsy they hit a nerve and they had to give me morphine before leaving the hospital before I could even begin to breathe. This lasted for 3 weeks and I pray to God I never have to go through another test that hurt me as bad as this one did.

Thank you for your comment. I really hope that I am not further damaged. I have never had my liver area hurt so much even after gall bladder surgery. And it is stil so very painful I do not know what to do I have decided I have to not blindly trust. Hospitals can be a place where persons get bad results when trying to get healthy. I wish I could change that. What is a DNB

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

It may take some time for the pain to settle down. The stretching of the peritoneum could be causing the pain. However, if it persists an ultrasonography may be mandatory. In the meantime you can take OTC pain medication Ibuprofen. Ensure to take this medication after food to avoid gastritis.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
