Liver test concern

Hi - I recently had blood work done, and my ALT & AST was 48 and 63, respectively.  My doctor wanted me to go back for another round of testing and this time both were 63.  I really didn't change anything in my diet, etc, but on the second test I made sure I didn't have any OTC medication within a week of the test, and made sure not to have any alcohol the day before the test.  I am on crestor for cholesterol, and nexium for GERD, but also take ambien as needed.

Is 63 to be considered dangerously high?  What can be done to get those number in the nominal range?

I agree with kitson22. 63 is elevated, but not dangerously high. Have those tests he mentioned if you or your doctor is concerned.

Just so to make you feel better, my numbers back in March were -
ALT was 677 and my AST was 257

while 63 is an elevated number.  it is not dangerously high.  if your numbers continue to trend up, i'd talk with your doctor about having a liver biopsy.  its a relativly simple procedure.  its moderatly uncomfortable, but after a radiologist looks at the biopsy, you can be given a wealth of information as to how your liver is performing.  hope that helps.

my liver tests are high I have a test  every month without fail. In the past 6 months I have two that has come back normal the rest has not. Ask your doc if your  chorlestrol drug is doing it.. They dont know why mine is high. I dont drink. You could try a very low fat deit and see if that brings your count down. I treid that but it did not work for me . Let us know how you get on.I hope this has helped

Have you checked to see if any of your medications can cause elevated liver enzymes? I would think your doctor should be doing a routine liver panel on you every so often to check those enzymes.
