Liver

Hi there, I am a female 56 years old and just recently had an ultra sound on my abdomen and they have stated that I have a focal solid lesion in the right lobe of the liver measuring 20 x 18mm (solid nodule) and have been told to have a triple phase CT scan through the liver. Could you please explain to me what this all means.  Also what does no free fluid in the upper abdomen is all about.

                                               Regards Cathy

Thank you for explaining to me about how the scan works, so very helpful and now I know what I will be going through.

Yes I love salty food that could be a big part for me having a fatty liver !!  I don't drink a lot of alcohol only occasionally.  I don't do a lot of exercise except once a week about 30 minute walk.

Hope you and your husband are both well and I thank you so much for replying.

Take care Cathy :)

My husband has had many abdominal CT Scans, but in his case they don't prep him beforehand.  CT Scans can be done using oral contrast, or iv contrast, so it might be that your instructions on Tuesday will be about drinking the contrast necessary to do the procedure.  My husband's CT Scans usually take about 20 minutes or less -- they inject him with an iv contrast, and pass him through this big machine that looks like a huge donut.  Besides laying still and flat on a hard surface, my husband doesn't find it terribly uncomfortable.  Hope that helps.

With fatty liver, it's essential that you do your best to help your liver maintain its functions: abstain from alcohol, avoid high fat and high salt foods, and get plenty of exercise.  Most liver lesions are benign, and hopefully the CT Scan will find that to be the case for you.  Best of luck.

Hi there, I am scheduled for a Triple CT scan through my liver on Thursday morning and was told to come in on (Tuesday) 24 hours prior to the scan for preparations.  Can anyone tell me what this entails and also how long does a CT scan take ?  I have never had one before and this is all new to me. I do have a fatty liver also and am trying  my best to eat healthy.  I am worrying a little about all of this but not overly concerned at this stage.  Would love to hear from anyone who could fill me  in on all of this .  Thanks Cathy

Be sure to get copies of CT and other tests/reports.  you need to read over and discuss with doctor.  I do know about free fluid in abdomen.  If you had feces outside of intestines or blood outside of veins or leaking any fluids that should not be there.  So not having, is good.  I have had many leaks and ruptures, not good.
