liver transplant

My mom had HBV and now she needs liver transplant. My sister is 23 years old and overweight. She wants to give her a part of her liver because they have the same type of blood. I would like to know if that possible and it will not be dangerous on my mom or my sister.

Thanks

im sorry to hear about your mom conditions.  i will tell you about my experience...i donated 60% of my liver to my husband who had hcv cirrhosis. we did it last jan. 08. i was in the icu for a week and another week in the recovery room. everything went well i have no problem or complications only a little pain in abdomen because of big incissions  imagine a big merceds sign in your abdomen.  its 99% safe for a living donor
but he or she should go thru all the transplant center protocol  to become a donor...good luck!
if any question i am happy to answer...my prayer to you and your family

Hi, sorry to hear this. I hope things work out real soon.
It would be best if you posted your question in the Transplant Forum. There are people there that have had liver transplants and can offer info/opinions.......you can also post your question in the "Expert Liver Transplant Forum."
Good luck,
MO

All I do know regarding this type of surgery is that it is much more dangerous to the person who is giving up a part of their liver then it is to the recipent.
