Thanks for responding, I notice after I wrote in this section it was the wrong one I did post in the HepC section aswell and was told pretty much the same. I did panic a bit I admit but it was cause of the way my dad reacted. I do know that there are 3 different types of the disease now reading into different posting it does seem a bit complicated and at the same time manageable. I will be calling to well known dR's who specialize in Hep tomorrow to set up a consultation for follow up because the hospital he went to is known for negalegence...  I will never ever treat my father as an outcast he is all I have regardless of his life style he is and always will be my dad and the #  1 grampa :) I was just asking questions to get answers from people with hands on experience as they say.. once again thank you for your responce. Oh about sharing needles I don't do drugs at all never have, unfortunately he does and has for many years but never has he used needles I did read that it is a common way to cantract Hep at a medical website.

First...take a deep breath.......ok, now until you know more you should just calm down.
Hepc is probably what your dad has. It is exceptionally hard to get...my hubby has had it for 40 years and neither I (his wife) nor any of our 5 kids have it. SO unless you shared IV drug needles with your dad.....relax.
He wouldn't have been given any medication for it because the TX for Hepc (asssuming it was and had it been A or B they would have done something) is a long term treatment. I won't go into details because you don't need to hear them at this point.

I did go have myself checked for the disease and you can have your kids checked too (simple blood tests) but I am sure you are fine.

See if you can find out if your dad has : Hep A, B or C. If it;s C find our what GENOTYPE it is. Genotypes 2&3 are very successfully treated. Genotype 1 is a lot harder, but it is doable.

Right now you don't have a lot of info and are in panic mode. You posted on the Transplant Board, which is kind of jumping the gun. Go to the HEpC boards and you will get a lot more support and info.

My hubby did require a transplant because of the HepC...but don't panic, OK? Get more info and take it day by day and for goodness sake don't treat your dad like he's an outcast. He needs your support.

It will be OK.
