Subpleural nodule

I am smoker 49.

My doctor sims not to  not very consern about the result bu i am very wory my father dided 3 years ago from lung cancer......
Two weeks ago i had my lungs CT scan.
Right upper lobe reveals some scattered bands.Right midlllle lobe reveals subsegmentalatelectasis inthemedial segment.Right lobe reveals 5mm subpleural nodule Left upper lobe reveals a fessural density.Left lower lobe has nonspecific scattered ground-glass opacites
Some enlarged bilateral axillary lymph nodes are seen,presumably benign
The result is worry me very much.I was going to have PET scan but radiologist did not recomend it.Could you kinedly advize me with my next actions [Less]

I had an abdominal CT scan 6 months ago that was looking for a pheochromoctytoma (not found).  The scan did show, however, some nodules on the left lower lobe of my lung (subpleural nodules).  At the time the Dr. didn't seem too concerned and suggested a 6 month CT chest scan follow-up.  I just had the CT scan yesterday and I'm very worried it could be much worse (no results yet).  I'm a 44 year old male with no smoking history.  Should I be concerned or is this just a typical follow-up strategy?  By the way, my 62 year old sister, also a non-smoker, had a lobe of one of her lungs removed about 20 years ago.

my husband has stage 4 colon cancer, it had spread to his liver. well after 6 months of chemo he just had a c-scan. on this report it talks about his lungs as having small scattered foci of subpleural ground glass opacities both upper and lower lobes . what does this mean?

Hi,

There is no clear method to clean up any damage in the lungs already present. There used to be studies done on smokers who were given medications to try and reverse smoking related alterations on the lining of the airways. The effect was only temporary.  At any rate, it is also known that the longer the time from quitting cigarettes, the risk for lung cancer decreases.

Speaking of the immune system, if you are frequently getting ill, you could consider getting shots to avoid pneumonia. While there is no direct relationship between lung infections and lung cancer - I think the actual goal of keeping up an active lifestyle is everyone's goal.

You can not imagine how badly i was waiting for it
I have no other major dessises and other exposure
Two month ago i had cold and than after a few weeks infection in my lungs,back  pain and constant tiredness  .After taking antibiotic i have got better,but knowing all lung cancer symptoms i was worried that is why i asked for CT scan to be done
I quit smoking one month ago
I was going to see homeopathic doctor to get some medicines for the immune system to help my lungs
to get better before doing next CT scan
What would be your opinion is there any way to clean the lungs ?

Hi,

Using only the size as a gauge, it is unlikely for it to be malignant. Do you have any other diseases or exposure? A risk for tuberculosis or sarcoidosis?

Do you have any other description, such as shape, regularity of the nodule borders, calcification? This would help make an estimate if it is malignant or otherwise.

Usual practice would be to perform monitoring, to observe changes over time and to review what other tests can be done based on risk profile changes as well.

While your father died from lung cancer, there is no clear familial tendency for lung cancer in particular. If there are other cancers in the family (do not count members of paternal and maternal sides together) then this may be a different story. The best protection you could give yourself is to quit the smokes
