Xray- Nodle

My husband just got an X Ray and here is what the report says:  There is subtle 2 cm nodle in the right lung base. There are COPD changes, there is no pleural effusion or pneumothorax.  The cardiomediastinal silhouette and pulmonary vasculature are normal.  Bony thorax, thoracic spine and visualized upper abdomen are normal.  Would you please tell me what all means?  He is scheduled for CAT scan.
Thanks

Thank You Dr. Santos,

We got the good news today it is calcification.  They will monitor it with CAT scan every 6 months.

Thanks again.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
If a lung nodule was seen in the chest x-ray, a CT scan would indeed be very helpful to determine its nature. Most lung nodules  or small masses of tissue in the lung  are benign and are due to infection, hamartoma, lung cysts, and vascular abnormalities. These are monitored for a certain period of time to ensure that there are no  changes in size, shape or appearance. For larger lung nodules, further evaluation may need to be done to rule out malignancy.  As mentioned from the previous post, result of the CT scan, complete medical history and symptoms present are important considerations also. Discuss this with your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and best regards.
