Excessive Mucus

I need some advice,.  I've been struggling with extreme amounts of sinus mucus that overtakes me.  This has gone on for 8 yrs after a bad sinus infection, this started and won't calm down with standard treatmnt.  Iv'e had ph probe , sinus surgery (ethmoidectomy) , take prevacid 2x day along with hbp meds.  I have sle lupus and wonder if there is a connection.  Nothing stops this excessive choking white stringy mucus except a long prednisone burst..  Iv'e seen 2 ENt's and was told there is 1% of pts. they can't help..unlucky for me.   I literally hack and choke when this mucus lets go from my sinuses.  My throat is clogged and I have to gag and suck it out the best I can.  I use a qtip to push it thru its that thick  & a tongue scapper to pull it out.  The mucus is coming from way back an under my ears, using a sinus wash is not helpful at all.   This has taken over my life .  CT scan don't show a problem which doesn't suprise me since I have to gag it out before going out.  I have at least 2-3 bad bouts a day along with smaller amount of mucus in my mouth.  Brushing my teeth gets it going real bad.  Any thoughts?  I also use ipratropium .06 4xd, it helped for awhile but lately it's been very bad . I tested neg for all allergies,

Maybe you are allergic to the toothpaste you are using since you said that brushing your teeth gets it going real bad. Can you try a different toothpaste or use a more natural brand? Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply.  So sorry to hear of your constant cough, that must be so irritating.  Like you a predisone burst stops it, thats why I wonder if the Lupus is playing a role in this  problem.  I'll be soon starting a burst to give me a break during the Christmas Season.

I too have SLE and a chronic dry cough.  I know your cough actually has mucus, but mine does not.  I have severe acid reflux that we are thinking might be caused by sjogren's.  Prednisone completely takes the cough away.  I think SLE could very possibly cause inflammation in your sinuses.

I know how frustrating this is.  I cough constantly.  I have a cough drop in my mouth all the time.
