Antibiotics

I just wanted to know if this was good enough...I am halfway through with my antibiotics and would have finished a month of Doxycycline twice a day (100mg) and will take another ELISHA TEST then WESTERN BLOT test after the month is up. does this sound good enough for the antibiotics to work? any suggestions?

thank you for answering my questions as best you can...my symptoms started about a month ago. I had no idea I would be positive for Lyme when I had no tick bite or Rash at all that I noticed.
even before this month (months ago, maybe) I remember complaining about knee pains but it didn't last too long, I know this can be the first sign of Lyme. I am not a big complainer well I wasn't until now and I feel now that everything is wrong with me...
-tonsilllitious
-swollen glands in neck
-achyness from the knee down
-upper and lower back pains
-neck stiffness
-a few headaches here and there
-jaw pains

I believe this is it...

I had first went to the doctor about the tonsilitious and the swollen glands in neck and from being achy she had given me Augmentin 875 and that seemed to help w.my tonsils and the glands. The rest had still been there.

I was going crazy thinking its something really bad and she tested for a lot of things...Lyme came back positive ( band 23 in IgM and band 41 in IgM and IgG) the ELISHA TEST was positive and she did a WESTERN BLOT to back it up.

I plan to do what I said, finish the antibiotics fully and go back to the doctor and test again after the month of antibiotics...

Do you think this is good enough? any other opinions? advice?

Hi there,

There is really not a single formula that works for everyone.  There are a lot of variables.

How long were you sick before you starting antibiotics?  If it was a relatively short time, than your chances of clearing the infection with a month's worth of doxy are much better.

If your diagnosis was significantly delayed, or if you are co-infected (ticks carry more than Lyme), than you may need longer treatement.  Also, how disseminated was your infection?  If you had fewer symptoms, then it may not have spread that much and again, that'd up your chances of fast recovery.  What sort of symptoms do you have?

I'm not an expert on the tests or how useful they are to check after treatment, but it sounds like a good plan that the tests will be repeated.  Will you definitely get a Western blot?  Many doctors will only order it if the ELISA is positive.

Even if you are cured after this course of antibiotics, be aware that in some (rare) cases, Lyme can appear to be cured only to reappear later on.  So if your symptoms ever return, be aware of that possibility.

Good luck.
