Could it be?

I am 44 yr old female and have many of the Lyme symptoms - but I'm not chronic and I've had the symptoms for 12-15 yrs...

I have always had the Type A personality, doing 10 things at once, over-achieving, very busy and interested in people and active in life - until about 15 yrs ago. Now, I'm rarely happy or satisfied, always agitated and exhausted. I'm in a very stressful profession and for years, I've been told my schedule, pace and stress level have been the "reason" I've felt awful, that the neurological problems are due to stress and lack of sleep, that the extreme weight gain in the past 3 yrs was reasoned away due to aging, not working out anymore, too much sugar, and the hypothyroid. And the digestive problems were surely due to food allergies, stress.

Due to the stress I quit my job 5 mos. ago to consult from home. Due to the digestive problems and extreme fatigue, a month ago I started a cleanse and cut out all sugar, grains, dairy.

I do feel a little less chaos in my digestive track - but all my other symptoms are very present even though the "aggravators" are gone. In fact, I have become more and more fatigued and fuzzy in the head as time passes. I'm disengaged and don't feel like I'm "present", withdrawn, depressed. My eyes are light sensitive, a little blurry and I have floaters. My hand and arm muscles still ache most days. My knees, ankles and left wrist joints still hurt every day. My TMJ has flared up. I did finally get rid of the chronic sinus infections and bronchitis that have plagued me nonstop for 7 months despite rounds of Amocicillin, Azithromycin, Lovefloxacin and steroids but still have daily drainage, intermittent twinges of facial and tooth/mandible pain, sore throat, ear infection/pain. My scalp at the crown of my head hurts to the touch.

I have done a significant amount of research over the past couple of weeks and I'm starting to suspect some bacteria, fungus or infection from a very young age - or at least a connection to prior illnesses. My adenoids had become so swollen I lost hearing in both ears and had tonsillitis at age 3, chicken pox age 7, HSV-1 age 12 (pretty sure I've also had shingles breakouts and have been positive for HSV-2 as well since then), tested positive for mono 3 times from age 15-18, over the past 10 years have had severe sinus and upper respiratory illnesses - knocking me out for 3 weeks at a time, and and within the past 2 years have been diagnosed with CFS, adrenal exhaustion and hypothyroidism. And for 10 yrs now I no longer get the flu or colds.

And as I dug deeper into those suspicions I keep coming across Lyme - and great websites with engaged posters like this one. I think I have some latent bacteria/fungus and thought it might be a good idea to seek out a specialist to test for EBV, Lyme, any other ideas???

Thanks - Jules ;)

Jules, you are smart to research because your symptoms sound like Lyme. Especially the hypothyroid, dizziness, unable to sleep.

To save you a lot of time you should seek a Lyme literate specialist, LLMD. You can go yo our association ILADS.org and email them for an LLMD near you.

Mainstream labs are useless. LLMD's  use IgeneX labs. Their tests are more accurate. Along with Lyme comes Co-infections. While you are on ILADS read Burascano's treatment guidelines. It gives you signs and symptoms of Lyme and the co's.

Many of us have EBV and we were misdiagnosed with other illness for example MS, lupus. This was before seeing an LLMD .

If they don't think its Lyme they can tell you too.

Sorry you have to be here but glad you found us. We are here to help or answer any questions you have.

Let us know what happens. Best of luck.

Forgot a few symptoms:
Forgetfulness! dizziness (not often), most nights I wake up around 2 or 3am every night, no matter what time I go to bed and I cannot resume sleep no matter how exhausted I am, and the rare nights I am able to sleep through I wake up just as exhausted as I do the other nights, forget to breathe sometimes, rosacea - extreme flushing.
