Flagyl Side Effects

Hi Everyone and Happy Easter!

I belong to another lyme and rife forum, although I don't post on it...I just read the daily digest.  One of the commentors on that forum (the lead guy) said that Flagyl has some serious side effects and one of them is the possibility of permanent peripheral neuropathy, mainly affecting the feet and hands.

The last time I saw my LLMD, he said we would need to add Flagyl at some point to break up the cysts.  I am very worried about what I read and starting this drug because I do NOT want to have permanent issues like this.

I am definitely going to talk to my doctor about this before taking it and do some more research but I was wondering if anyone here has experienced anything like this with Flagyl?

Thank you!!!

Carrie

I've never taken flagyl but have read that it is a tough med for others.

I was on tindamax, another cyst-buster, and it was very difficult for me.  I took it after more than a year of treatment, and it caused quite a stir-up in my symptoms that left me feeling notably set back.  However, I recovered from it much faster than how long it took to initially treat.

A lot of Lyme docs feel that you must include cyst busters at some point in treatment, but there seems to be a lot of variation in when this is done or which one is used.  Hopefully the flagyl at this stage works well for you.

Yes, there are serious side effects that can occur, which is why it's important to read the warning labels and watch for those symptoms to occur, IF they do, and to action then.

Relax.

That is interesting, I had never read that.  I just started Flagyl about 9 days ago.  I have sooo much tingling in hands, feet and other areas that I can't imagine the Flagyl making it any worse.  I have not noticed an increase in the sensations.  If anything, I think I might be feeling a little better.  Interested to see if others had this happen on Flagyl.

I was on Flagyl for six straight months and had no such problems ... and I *am* a delicate flower when it comes to meds:  I get a buzz from plain Tylenol, and a kid's dose of Benedryl puts me out for hours.

Those package inserts full of warnings that come with prescriptions are necessary so that you would know to call your doc right away if some of those bad things started to happen.  It doesn't mean it WILL happen, but better you twig to it early so you can confer with your doc about whether to discontinue, yes?

If you get your car fixed and the mechanic says, "If it starts to go CLANK CLANK in the read end, that's the transmission, so pull over and call me," then you know to listen for the CLANK CLANK, but it doesn't mean the transmission WILL go out, y'know?
