Is this a herx?

So some of my very first symptoms consisted of vision issues like sporadic blurred vision, phantom vision, and snowfall vision. Those symptoms calmed down after being on IV steroids for MS over a year ago. I have been on Zithromax and Rifampin for about 5 months now. 3 weeks ago vision issues came back and was told I have Retrobulbar Optic Neuritis. Now I could have had this a year ago because this is no damage or inflammation on the eye or optic nerve.

So I know a herx is "worsening of symptoms" and since one of my original symptoms is back and kinda worse than originally, would you considered this a herx to abx?

My neuro scheduled me for an MRI on Feb 27th to see if there are more lesions, but just wanted to check with the community.

I could be wrong, and everyone is different.  But being that far into treatment, I would doubt that being a herx.  My LLMD says that herxheimers  typically come on within a week or so of beginning a new medication and last for a few days.

It's hard to know for sure though!

Thanks for info. So do you think I am having a herx from 5 months of abx treatment? Other then the vision issue, I feel pretty good, not 100% normal, but pretty good.

Microvermin often run to the extremities of blood flow and nerve impulses.  Hands, feet, top of the head, and eyes to get as far away from what ever you might be taking that's not good for them.  In some cases, like mine, it seems they have a way of sealing themselves in there away from the harmful chemicals.  Don't ask me to explain how they do this, cause I don't know, but I think our own immune system plays a role with things called Neutrophil Extracellar Traps.

So you would say yours is sporadic?

My first time with this it was like that on the same day. This time it still is like that, but lost some visual field in the lower left quadrant of my left eye. I could see, but more blurry and grayish in that particular area. Plus these flashing of light (most likely bright blue dots) are extremely annoying.

I am really hopin it's a herx and not more lesions on the brain, but time will tell after the MRI. Thanks for your reply!

I can't say about your case but I know when I'm herxing my eyesight comes and goes. By that I mean blurry then clear throughout the day. It's good your Dr. is keeping an eye on it, good luck!
