You're welcome!  I haven't taken either of the above, but I know that warnings of permanent side effects from antibiotics and parasitic medications aren't always made well known, so I thought the post was extremely helpful to any of those suggested to take these meds.  I, myself, have been experiencing horrible muscle spasms since my 2 day stint with Biaxin.  Other than the horrible aftertaste with this medicine I haven't read anything about long-lasting side effects, but the ONLY thing that changed and could've sparked these long-term spasms in me was the addition of Biaxin

Thank you for that link.

And a sarcastic thank you to the FDA for FINALLY putting that warning out!  Since at LEAST 2001 people have had terrible and long-lasting and sometimes horrible side-effects from the use of those drugs.

I don't know if people here remember the anthrax scares after 9-11 when several high officials were sent anthrax in envelopes.

"Tuesday, September 18, 2001, one week after the September 11 attacks. Letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. Senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others"

There have been numerous class action lawsuits arising from that. I don't know how many class action suits have arisen from patients being given Cipro, Levaquin et al. I briefly thought about joining one but realized quickly that my situation (other antibiotics) would make 'proof' very difficult.

I would not presume to tell people not to take Cipro or other floxxes but if they were worried they might consider this article and showing it to their doctor. Medscape explains:

"Discussion of doxycycline, a more economically reasonable, generic drug with anticipated equal efficacy for postexposure prophylaxis compared with ciprofloxacin, as a treatment option was relegated to government Web sites and belated press releases.

Not until 2 weeks after the initial attacks did the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other public health officials make a concerted effort to publicize the efficacy of doxycycline and penicillin and suggest that doxycycline is a better tolerated treatment than ciprofloxacin.[8,9]

Around this same time, the CDC released interim recommendations for postexposure prophylaxis including ciprofloxacin or doxycycline as options, but the CDC did not disseminate these recommendations in an official health advisory until 4 weeks after the initial attacks, long after the public had decided that ciprofloxacin was the best choice for treating those exposed.[10,11]"

[That excerpt is talking about doxy and anthrax---- not Lyme disease. But I've seen where some Lyme doctors do rx doxy in lieu of Cipro when the patient refuses to take Cipro or can't afford it.]

All I know is that I'd never willingly take a fluroquinolone again.
