Mid

Have you a phobia, if so...what?

Have you ever tried a new recipe for a family event and have it be a big flop?

Phobias, I have really just two. the first one is clowns, anything that has to do with them, pictures of them, movies, circus music.
the other is...being scared...meaning when someone hides, and jumps out and scares you...that really upsets me and i will punch the person out of a reaction....I husband learned this early on...

My biggest phobia would have to be elevators.... I know sounds weird but i swear i have the hugest panick attacks I will take 20 flights of stairs before i get in one......The ocean is another one..... being surounded by nothing but the deep water....scary!

I thankfully havent had any flops yet as far as cooking....i normally try them on my husband first lol

I am terrified of turkeys. Live turkeys. When I lived on a farm in middle school we had turkeys and I swear they were plotting my death. They would chase after me clucking and pecking at my feet. They were trying to trip me so they could pluck at my eyes out, I just know it.

I tried to make an egg nog custard pie last year for Christmas, Paula Dean made it with her son Jamie. I LOVE egg nog and I was so excited to have everyone try it. I made two 10 inch custard pies, one for each side of my family. My Mom tried the first slice and pawned it off on my brother, he preceded to pawn it off on the rest of the family. I don't think even that one piece got eaten. I took the other pie to my Dad's side and had basically the same thing happened.
Stupid Jamie Dean.

OMG, that is sooooo funny!!  I thought I was the only one who had a phobia of crickets and grasshopper.  UGHHHH, I can't stand them.  They hop and make that hideous cricket noise,  It's kind of sad because Jimminey Cricket is so cute!!  haha

The recipe thing, when I was like 10, i tried to make pancakes for my mom on her birthday.  Probably the first time a really ever tried to cook.  I didn't know how to make them so I looked in the ingrediants part, you know the one with all the fancy words...haha yeah i didn't have any of that stuff except for salt and water which i added to the mix.  Needless to say my pancakes came out like tortillas.

I am scared to death of spiders.  I used to be afraid of thunderstorms but now I quite enjoy them.  I also have a fear of heights, I can't even stand to look out of the windows of high-rise buildings.

I have a really bad phobia of crickets and grasshoppers. I can't stand them. Hubby brought a cricket in the house once in a jar, and I literally passed out.

My big family flip flop was back in 2004. I lived in texas and was renting a really crappy trailer. I was attempting to make a double layered cheese cake, when my oven went haywire and my cheese cake went up in flames in front of everyone! Hubby had to yank it out of the oven while I sat there and stared, then broke down in tears.

I'm just over terrified of being in a car. I'm scared to death I will be hurt in a wreck or killed. Or even the person I'm with. It scareeesss mee sooo bad! I seriously, cry in the car. I keep my eyes closed on the interstate, and freak out and take gasps of air when the light turns green. It's a horrible feeling.. Strange thing is though... when I'm driving it's NOT AS BAD.. But I still get panic attacks, just not as horrible.

Ok so it's strange but death. My biggest freak out is always over death I literally go into panic attacks thinking about what will happen when I get old. I know it's dumb and a part of life but it creeps me out.

Also never been on an airplane...not that I fear it

Recipe: nope usually works out ok...

Mine is wide expanses of water like on a Cruise where there is nothing but miles and miles of deep water all around, that would be my worse nightmare even though I'm a strong swimmer,I absolutley freaked at the movie Titanic I totally missed the romantic side of it all I saw was water water everywhere ...... so I guess my Phobia is drowning.

I would try a new recipe if I had friends round cos once the drinks flow people will eat just about anything and think it tastes fine and if their sick afterwards I can tell them it was the alcohol they consumed not the food hahaha!!

I like flying.  Now wouldn't you think having been afraid of tunnels and bridges I'd freak out on a plane?  Nope.  I flew in February and enjoyed it a lot.

The new recipe thing ............BTDT (been there done that) ........ most embarrasing thread  ? I'm still thinking of an answer . could have been a new recipe or two or three LOL!

I don't like flying, but I will do it, only if I'm pixilated.

I would NEVER try out a new recipe for a group of people without trying it out myself, first.

I overcame my terrible fear of driving thru tunnels and crossing bridges.

And it wasn't easy .. I had true panic attacks which isn't a good thing when one is driving.

The most awful part was that I didn't know I had it until I was driving thru the Baltimore/MD tunnel about 20 yrs ago and had a panic attack ... I still don't know how I made it through!

So going home that same trip we went 50miles out of our way to avoid the tunnel and take a bridge and the same thing happened on the bridge!  It was the first time since driving I encountered a span bridge or real tunnel .. this was horrible!

It took about 2yrs to work it thru and today I am proud to say just 2 yrs ago I drove the same tunnel and have crossed many Hudson River Bridges w/o a problem ... it was mind over matter that conquored it for me  + realizing it was my personal history of having had carbon monoxide poisioning that created this phobia .. smelling the fumes in a tunnel brought back subconscious memories of the scary carbon monoxide event when I was teenager (which happened when I was driving).

Great Question!

Jollyman thats a natural feeling you have I would be the same way

I used to do security work and the homeowners wanted everything secure windows doors, motions, garage roll up doors, heat and air returns, crawl holes under houses , Windows
So I asked why were they so detailed because they where spending a fortune he said you see my grandbaby over there I said yes sir. He said last chritmas someone broke in his mom and dads house and shot them while they where sleeping. To this day It bothers me that I ever asked that question and this was 10 yrs ago security wasnt even as big as it is now.
So you can believe in my house it is very secure it taught me a lesson to mind my own buisness

Yes, I am extremely scared of mice. I know they can't kill me...but if there was one loose in here I would FREAK and leave... possibly half dressed (been done before) b/c I get so freaked I (at the time) know that mouse could kill me if it touched me.

I totally understand how irrational that is...my Mom is the same way. I grew up w/her freaking out and standing on the bed screaming if she thought she MAYBE saw a mouse and then my brother or Dad would have to chase it down while she smoked cigs and FREAKED OUT...did I mention we freak out? LOL

On the recipe thing...yes I have messed up stuff on accident when it was for my friends surgery. She wanted chicken and noodles...I make it all the time...could make it in my sleep. I burned the noodles NOT ONCE but TWICE!!! She got KFC.
