I don't know about what it would be like, but, I do know those were good times for the most part, a time of more innocence and good, clean fun. So many kids back then would ride bikes, sit out late at night in the yard and tell jokes or stories, and would make up fun games. I think now, we almost have too much and nothing to look forward to. Oh sure, I am the first to admit I am used to all I have now, but, looking back on the "olden" days, sure does make me sigh for more idyllic times.
I remember back when I was in first grade so it must have been '72? Anyway, this is first grade people, remember that! We went to a small amusement park, complete with rides, etc. for a field trip. We were given the stamp on our hands and told to stay with our buddies (we each had a buddy) and told to go have fun, just to meet back when it was time to leave. Of course, I had a ball but would anyone do this now days? First grade would be about 7 years old? Would you let 7 year old's run around an amusement park for hours, going in the bathrooms, etc. with no adult supervision? You would not see this today. Maybe middle school but not first graders! That's how much has changed since then. I think we lost a sense of innocence. We didn't used to worry about predators or kidnappers back then. We'd ride our bikes all over town till dark and nobody worried like they do today. It's a shame. I think we lost something there.
You know if I was a teen in the 50s I think I may of been a flower child LOL,,I do remember seeing them as I was a young girl gonna date my self born 1962..I remember when things were so different in Detroit people were so mean and racial we have come along way thank God for that.
great question if I had only known then wow, the stocks I would have bought !!! apple, blockbusters....when they first came out I thought it was the stupidest idea,,,who would pay to rent a movie and more so who would be honest enough to return it lol was I wrong....and btw agree with Brians response on the serious side.
One thing we didn't have in the 50's and 60's was perma-press! Everything needed ironing and I really did not like ironing! It might not be regarded as technology, but I think it would have made a huge difference in the lives of many women.
We didn't have cable TV or even color until mid to late sixties and not everyone could afford them. Not all shows were broadcast in color, either. There weren't very many TV shows and when there was no show on they used to run a "test pattern". I don't know if cable would have worked in our family--we were only permitted to watch TV for an hour or so a day and then we were forced to play outside. (we were told it was bad for your eyes)
One thing I remember very well was Enicac--the first computer. It took up the entire room. I also recall conversations about futuristic things--like "pay TV" All I could picture then was the TV having a little box on it to put your money in-ha-ha. Then, there was talk about someday not using money--it would be plastic, they predicted. I don't know if these things would have worked out if we had them in the 60's. Most families did not have the income to purchase all this stuff and I doubt if the idea of charging everything on a credit card would have gone over. People tended more to live within their means.
I'm not sure what it would be like but I certainly miss those years. I loved growing up in the 60s and 70s. Those were some wonderful times.
What did we do back then without cellphones?? We got on our "banana" bikes and rode to the persons house!!!!!
What sparked this ? was watching on TV tonight about the replacement for the Supreme Court Justice ---------- watching the protests outside the White House that they showed from the 60's ... I was trying to think how those would have been different with cellphone texting as to who would meet up with whom and where .. instantaneously .............. and/or transmit photos. What did we do "back then" without cellphones?

You should try watching LOST. Okay it was the 70's they returned to, but still interesting show, inteesting thought...
If I take the whh theory (what the LOST forums use to abb "What happened happened") Then no matter what we did, wouldn't seriously change the past or present. We would think we were changing it, but then no matter what the same events will still play out to assure that what happened stayed consistant without any paradox.
Hmm, I don't know about the 60's, maybe going further back. I do think that morality's been going downhill more and more every year.
I think if they had the technolgy in the 60's that there is today there might not be a world left, the 60's were scarey enough withour the internet and other things we have today, Vietnam damn near tore this country apart, and with the cold war i just don't think it would have been good...great question though
There wouldn't be "party lines" on the private telephones. Growing up, we had to share the phone with our neighbbors across the street! You had to click the receiver up and down to signal to the other person you wanted to make a call AND you could easily evesdrop!
