How have you been scammed?

Just wondering if any of you have been scammed on "what seemed like a too good to be true deal" that was in fact... too good to be true?

The reason I am asking is because my husband and I are looking into getting the Magicjack internet phone. Now I have read numerous reports/complaints that have me wondering if it is a "too good to be true" deal. I started a journal on this subject, and many have posted on both sides so it is still up for debate for my husband and I!

Was thinking maybe this thread might help others in what to look out for when going for certain deals.

Thanks!

Patty

eek! My husband owns his own remodeling business..lol But he is very honest and has very high ratings on Angie's List. But I know the type you are talking about, they give other very good remodelers bad reputations. Maybe you should call a business like Angie's List for your next contractor. They let customers grade each business in every category of each business category whether it be contracting, remodeling, plumbing, carpet cleaning.. the list goes on and on.

Uncle Sam is good to all of us, including me. Additionally I have been scammed three times by carpenters/ home repair ppl. Yes it took me three times to get smart. (Kinda like marriage) I lost a total of $6,000 over a 3 year period. The last one was in 1998. NEVER again have I or will I trust that home remodel/repair business.

I wondered about those Magicjacks too. But you know what they say, "If it's too good to be true....." So I'm going pass.

Once I ordered a free sample of a tooth whitening product out of Canada.  I was supposed to ONLY pay for shipping. So, I gave them my credit card information.  They took $300 out of my account - apparently, there was fine print that I agreed to pay for future shipments as well!!!  I did receive the product, but it did NOT work!  I tried to get my money back, but I would be given a new number to call and that company would send me to another and so on.  I reported them to the BBB, but still never got that money back!

I WILL NEVER do that again!!!

From what I have heard on the radio the shamwow is a scam. The bought one on the radio station and tried it out. They said it wouldn't pick anything up. So to me that is a scam.
