Psychics? Believe or No?

My sister and I recently went on a road trip. She is an avid believer in psychics (hope I spelled that right?). She talked me into going with her even tho I do not believe personally that you should dabble. It is not that I do not believe in their work but I do believe you should not dabble because it opens up a lot of doors for bad forces to enter. Anyway! I did it.

So, I walks in and she asks me is I want psyschic reading, tarot, or palm. I decided psychic reading. She held my hands with her own and was very quiet for what seemed like an eternity. Then she started describing my husband as my life mate and I was astounded!

She said I would live to be in my 90's, but the quality of my life was questionable. She described my husband as arrogant, clumsy, stubborn, not knowing how to show his emotion, but is true blue and would give his life for me. She did not know that lately I have been straddling the fence with this dude. I did not think so anyway, but she preceded to tell me to stick it out, cause things were about to turn around for good. She also said I would get a financial opportunity in the next two to four months. Then she mentioned that I would lose one more good friend, (lost one to liver failure this year). She also stroked my ego with what a wonderful person I am with many virtues and proceded to name them. 50 bucks and 15 minutes later, I was on my way and am still in wonder how she described my relationship with my old man. My old stubborn, arrogant man at that. This woman had never even heard my name before.  Anyway, it was an experience and it was interesting. Has anyone else had something come true from being predicted by a psychic?

i think some of them could be legit. my mom visits a psychic who is a total nut job. she said my sil would have another baby within a year of having her son (my nephew is now 2 and still no other baby for her) she said my marriage would end in a year (we've been married for 16 months now...), my brother would come home (he still living with his gf), i would have all girls (i have 2 boys) and that my grandmother would pass by july (it's now august and my grams is still kicking). but i met a psychic who was amazing. she was able to tell me things about myself that not even my husband knows.

i'm also a born again christian but unlike jollyman i don't see the whole psychic thing or anything of that sort as dabbling with witchcraft. obviously if someone does have this ability it is a gift. and i honestly believe it is a gift from god. now how they use the gift is something entirely different. they could use it for good (i.e. helping police or just helping people) OR they could use it as a get rich quick thing....not a scam if they're right but...ya know.

I agree with jollyman. God warns several times in the bible to not have anything to do with psychics because we're supposed to rely on God not other "forces" which can sometimes be evil spirits or just a person scamming you.
I do believe God does give the gift of prophecy to some, though, and you can tell if they have this gift if they give all the credit to God and their prophecies come true.

I believe in the spiritual gift of prophecy, which I suppose in this case is another way of describing psychic abilities. I believe that God has gifted certain people with an inate sense of intuition, or more sensitivity to the "sixth sense" I believe we all have.
Now, as far as psychics go who are making a profit from what they do, I really do not know if I believe in what they do as genuine or not. I've never been to a psychic and I will never voluntarily go to one who is in it for profit because, as a Christian, I also believe we should not dabble our faith and trust in the unknown of the supernatural. However, I do believe that there are some psychics who are genuine, but what they choose to do with their ability is up to them, and I choose not to be a part of it for the reason I stated earlier.
In most cases, I honestly believe the majority of psychics are fake. I do not believe the majority of psychics can really see the future or into the most personal aspects of a person's life as if they were watching a television show or listening to a radio broadcast in their mind and then conveying it to the person they're "reading." In cases like this, I believe these "psychics" are professional "people readers;" they have the talent of just looking at a person and reading into what they see in facial expressions, gestures, posture, breathing rates, visual expressions, body temperature and sweat expression and grip pressure (if they hold your hands), etc. I believe these "phychics" have literally mastered the art of reading these physical reactions and have learned the most basic things to read from people based on these physical aspects--there's so much you can KNOW about people, without "knowing" it, if you can read their body language the right way. Then all you have to do is ask a question or two, or even make an assuming statement or two, and then elaborate on the answers or reactions they give in such a way that meets their emotional desires. The better their emotional desires are met, the more of a "connection" they are likely to feel with the "reader," and therefore, more likely to continue giving or affirming their most personal information to the "reader."
I do not believe that is genuine psychic ability; to me, that's just professional people reading and relating, and making money by doing it.
I absolutely DO NOT believe in tarot cards or palm reading. That to me is just plain stupid. I can't figure out why anyone would put their faith in paper cards with picures that are pulled from a stack at random (or however it's done), or the lines on their hands. But that's just me. I think terot and palm reading are laughable.
Now, back to what I believe to be the gift of prophecy. I believe there are people whom God gifts to know certain events of the future, or events of peoples' lives, and I believe those true prophets only use their abilities to glorify God. In other words, say a person claims to "know" a piece of the future that's X years away, and it'll be something believed to be impossible, such as harvesting a crop during a drought, and then continues by crediting this event to God's grace.
Or, say a prophecy is made from one person to another, that the prophet goes up to a person they've never met or seen in their life, and says something to them that ultimately either leads them to God, or strengthens their faith. The prophet (psychic) predicted such a thing for another person not to make money, but to honor God.

Amen, AJ. My mom has dreams that I believe are from God. She's been woken up in the middle of the night many times to pray for someone and then would find out later why. I think she has a gift of dreams and that God speaks to her that way.

I'm with Jolly on this one. The Lord tells us not to even consider it.

. There are psychics that live in my town with signs out in their yard, and their way of living is poverty.  And really, I've always wondered if they were really psychic why not go in on the lottery and win money and get a better house.

Good points from all of you and I agree, but did it anyway. I do feel bad for going, but like I said it was uncanny how she had insight into my life. In some circles, it is like going to see a movie and no one really takes it seriously. And like I said, I was considering throwing in the towel on my marriage. So it did convince me to hang in, so I guess that was good. I will let you know if anything comes of it, but am not planning on doing it again! lol, but it was fun!

When you are given a gift, you do not use it for personal gain, and you harm none.
Those who are gifted usually have their own set of rules or law,...most who are gifted believe their gifts are God given and if they don't use their gifts that would be in the way of a huge insult to their Creator...So you can see how people could get very conflicted.

Those who feel that they are truly gifted are usually hugely religous.

Can't say I do believe in them.  I always wondered why they aren't rich.  If they can see the future, why don't they win the lottery a lot more?  If I were a psychic, I'd be choosing #'s left and right.

I have a friend who believes in them and they have never told her anything that actually happened.  They tell her what she wants to hear and she is more than happy to pay them money for it.  She believes a lot of things but is clueless about the people (men in particular) who lie, cheat and use her.  And these are the guys the physics will tell her are her "soulmates".  It's ridiculous if you ask me.

As a born-again Christian, I have to agree with Jolly and April. The bible tells us not to dabble with demons or demonic spirits. I do believe in words of knowledge and prophesy, but, I feel these should also be done in a church setting during a service.

Some of these people may be legit, but I feel they may be led by Satan.

Don't feel bad Teko, just repent and ask the Lords forgiveness. He will forgive you.

Well, as a psychic myself I would have to say Yes I believe! Used to be totally terrified of the fact when I was a little girl I would blurt out things like, Grandpa's dead and 30 seconds later got the knock on the door. Mum nearly had a heart attack and my dad just stood there with his mouth open.
Proven myself over and over again to skeptics. Sometimes I just wish I could turn it off.
I told my boyfriend not to fly United from Australia to USA. He just laughed at me. I kept saying and crying, I don't know why but I just know you might get killed. I cried all night. Then of course Sept 11 happened. Luckily his plane was diverted to Hawaii where he and others were not allowed into mainland USA for 3 days.
My ability has saved my son's life and my daughter's too. That's another story.
I actually LOATHE the psychics at fairs and carnivals! I went to one who told me I would never have children. I actually already had 3 at the time! Told me my husband was dead. I have an ex-husband very much alive. I actually told HER about her sick grandmother and her  own lousy marriage...she just sat there dumbfounded.
Guess I must be evil and satanic, hey! (winks at everyone)

Why would God give us a gift if it was demonic?I do agree that most are fakes.People reading can be taught, but it can also be God given. Those that pick up other's pain or feelings use it to feel more empathy for that person, its subconscious.Visions can warn us if something bad may happen, and you can't choose when to have them.In my opinion, if you receive money for the things you pick up on its wrong,God would'nt want that. Some people use these gifts for evil,I hope most use them for good,to help, with no strings attached,as God would want and expect them to be used.....God Bless,Jen

Many moons ago, I was a CSR at a phone co. in FL.  One day, I got an irate call from a psychic who advertised on TV, Madame Katherine.  She was TICKED OFF because she was getting prank phone calls from kids, presumable from a pay phone.

Our calls were routinely monitored, but there were 3 wardens, er, supervisors and probably over 50 CSR's on the "floor".  I took a chance and said, "Madame Katherine, if you're a psychic, why don't YOU tell ME who's calling you...?"  And I hung up.  I didn't get in trouble.  She didn't "discern" who *I* was, either...

I have never yet been to one. I believe in psychics though because a lot of the people I heard that went to one, the stuff came true and the psychic knew a lot about that person. I'm only 14, so I don't know if I'm allowed to go to a psychic or not, which I don't see why I couldn't. I wanna go though, sometime in my life. The only thing I would be worried about is that she would tell me I wasn't gonna live very long or that I would be single the rest of my life or possibly not have any good friends. I hope you live a very long, happy, fulfilling life!

I don't know that I do or don't believe in pyschics. I did hear a funny saying once and I believe it might have been on here. If pyschics are really pyschic why do they ask for your name?

Anyway I have never been to one but my sister has and they told her lots of things that have come true.

Redheadaussie and Beachwalker. I would call your gifts more of a type of prophesy, or, words of knowledge, and these can indeed be gifts from God, These are entirely different from those physics at circuses, etc. I believe my mother was a psychic is a way, although again, it was more like a word of knowledge. She would get these "feelings" and you had better listen if she would say something as she was 95% right, but, her "feelings" were not for bad, we did not feel they were from Satan, on the contrary, we felt the Lord gave her these. One day, dad did not feel well, I was scared, she said, he will be OK, I just know it, sure enough, he was fine. On another occasion, for many months, when I was young, she kept saying she felt as if some things were wrong, as if a cup of sadness was about to overflow. Well, not too long afterwords, her mother died.I can't put it into words, but, it was not like a psychic, it was more "intuition" I would say, yes, that is it, "Intuition"

Anyway, no, redheadaussie or beachwalker, you are NOT evil. :-)

To me, it's all a joke, like astrology. What confirmed this for me was that my sister-in-law is an editor for a national magazine. When the Horoscope lady went of vaction, my sister-in-law wrote the horoscopes for three weeks!

I absolutely believe in intuitiveness. I have been told that I am so intuitive (and right), that it's downright scary. But I think if you listen to people, really listen, and pay attention to them and their actions, you can learn a lot of things.

Sometimes we know stuff we don't 'know.' I knew my husband was having an affair. How? Well, he lost 20 lbs., bought new underwear, starting wearing new cologne, and just felt that he 'had to have some space. I've never had any space, and I just need to think.' Know what? Those are all signs when you say, "What's her name?"

Some food for thought -

The position of God is that of supreme consciousness. The souls, or the living entities, being parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord, are also conscious. The Lord is conscious, as is the living being, but the living being is conscious of his particular body, whereas the Lord is conscious of all bodies. Because He lives in the heart of every living being, He is conscious of the psychic movements of the particular soul. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, is living in everyone's heart as supersoul, as the controller, and that He is giving directions for the living entity to act as he desires. The living entity forgets what to do. First of all he makes a determination to act in a certain way, and then he is entangled in the actions and reactions of his own karma.
The supreme conscious God is similar to the living entity in this way: both the consciousness of the Lord and that of the living entity are transcendental. It is not that consciousness is generated by the association of matter. That is a mistaken idea. The theory that consciousness develops under certain circumstances of material combination is not accepted. Consciousness may be pervertedly reflected by the covering of material circumstances, just as light reflected through colored glass may appear to be a certain color, but the consciousness of the Lord is not materially affected. When He descends into the material universe, His consciousness is not materially affected. If He were so affected, He would be unfit to speak on transcendental matters.
When we are materially contaminated, we are called conditioned. False consciousness is exhibited under the impression that I am a product of material nature. This is called false ego.One must become free from the bodily conception of life; that is the preliminary activity for the transcendentalist. One who wants to become free, who wants to become liberated, must first of all learn that he is not this material body.
What is this consciousness? This consciousness is "I am." Then what am I? In contaminated consciousness "I am" means "I am the lord of all I survey. I am the enjoyer." The world revolves because every living being thinks that he is the lord and creator of the material world. Material consciousness has two psychic divisions. One is that I am the creator, and the other is that I am the enjoyer. But actually the Supreme Lord is both the creator and the enjoyer, and the living entity, being part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, is neither the creator nor the enjoyer, but a cooperator. He is the created and the enjoyed. For instance, a part of a machine cooperates with the whole machine; a part of the body cooperates with the whole body. The hands, feet, eyes, legs and so on are all parts of the body, but they are not actually the enjoyers. The stomach is the enjoyer. The legs move, the hands supply food, the teeth chew and all parts of the body are engaged in satisfying the stomach because the stomach is the principal factor that nourishes the body's organization. Therefore everything is given to the stomach. One nourishes the tree by watering its root, and one nourishes the body by feeding the stomach, for if the body is to be kept in a healthy state, then the parts of the body must cooperate to feed the stomach. Similarly, the Supreme Lord is the enjoyer and the creator, and we, as subordinate living beings, are meant to cooperate to satisfy Him. This cooperation will actually help us, just as food taken by the stomach will help all other parts of the body. If the fingers of the hand think that they should take the food themselves instead of giving it to the stomach, then they will be frustrated. The central figure of creation and of enjoyment is the Supreme Lord, and the living entities are cooperators. By cooperation they enjoy. The relation is also like that of the master and the servant. If the master is fully satisfied, then the servant is satisfied. Similarly, the Supreme Lord should be satisfied, although the tendency to become the creator and the tendency to enjoy the material world are there also in the living entities because these tendencies are there in the Supreme Lord who has created the manifested cosmic world.

The Lord is very kind to the living entities because they are His sons."I am the father of all." Of course there are all types of living entities according to their various karmas, but here the Lord claims that He is the father of all of them. Therefore the Lord descends to reclaim all of these fallen, conditioned souls to call them back to the eternal sky so that the eternal living entities may regain their eternal positions in eternal association with the Lord. The Lord comes Himself in different incarnations, or He sends His confidential servants as sons or His associates or spiritual masters to reclaim the conditioned souls.

Therefore, sanatana-dharma as they call it in India or "eternal religion" does not refer to any sectarian process of religion. It is the eternal function of the eternal living entities in relationship with the eternal Supreme Lord. Sanatana-dharma refers, as stated previously, to the eternal occupation of the living entity. "that which has neither beginning nor end."
The English world "religion" is a little different from sanatana-dharma. Religion conveys the idea of faith, and faith may change. One may have faith in a particular process, and he may change this faith and adopt another, but sanatana-dharma refers to that activity which cannot be changed. For instance, liquidity cannot be taken from water, nor can heat be taken from fire. Similarly, the eternal function of the eternal living entity cannot be taken from the living entity. Sanatana-dharma is eternally integral with the living entity.
That which has neither end nor beginning must not be sectarian, for it cannot be limited by any boundaries. Yet those belonging to some sectarian faith will wrongly consider that sanatana-dharma is also sectarian, but if we go deeply into the matter and consider it in the light of modern science, it is possible for us to see that sanatana-dharma is the business of all the people of the world--nay, of all the living entities of the universe.

Non-sanatana religious faith may have some beginning in the annals of human history, but there is no beginning to the history of sanatana-dharma because it remains eternally with the living entities. Insofar as the living entities are concerned, the authoritative sastras state that the living entity has neither birth nor death. In the Gita it is stated that the living entity is never born, and he never dies. He is eternal and indestructible, and he continues to live after the destruction of his temporary material body. In reference to the concept of sanatana-dharma, we must try to understand the concept of religion from the Sanskrit root meaning of the word. Dharma refers to that which is constantly existing with a particular object. We conclude that there is heat and light along with the fire; without heat and light, there is no meaning to the word fire. Similarly, we must discover the essential part of the living being, that part which is his constant companion. That constant companion is his eternal quality, and that eternal quality is his eternal religion.
The constitutional position of the living being is the rendering of service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If we analyze this statement, we can easily see that every living being is constantly engaged in rendering service to another living being. A living being serves other living beings in two capacities. By doing so, the living entity enjoys life. The lower animals serve human beings as servants serve their master. A serves B master, B serves C master and C serves D master and so on. Under these circumstances, we can see that one friend serves another friend, the mother serves the son, the wife serves the husband, the husband serves the wife and so on. If we go on searching in this spirit, it will be seen that there is no exception in the society of living beings to the activity of service. The politician presents his manifesto for the public to convince them of his capacity for service. The voters therefore give the politician their valuable votes, thinking that he will render valuable service to society. The shopkeeper serves the customer, and the artisan serves the capitalist. The capitalist serves the family, and the family serves the state in the terms of the eternal capacity of the eternal living being. In this way we can see that no living being is exempt from rendering service to other living beings, and therefore we can safely conclude that service is the constant companion of the living being and that the rendering of service is the eternal religion of the living being.
Yet man professes to belong to a particular type of faith with reference to particular time and circumstance and thus claims to be a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist or any other sect. Such designations are non-sanatana-dharma. A Hindu may change his faith to become a Muslim, or a Muslim may change his faith to become a Hindu, or a Christian may change his faith and so on. But in all circumstances the change of religious faith does not affect the eternal occupation of rendering service to others. The Hindu, Muslim or Christian in all circumstances is servant of someone. Thus, to profess a particular type of sect is not to profess one's sanatana-dharma. The rendering of service is sanatana-dharma(eternal religion).
Factually we are related to the Supreme Lord in service. The Supreme Lord is the supreme enjoyer, and we living entities are His servitors. We are created for His enjoyment, and if we participate in that eternal enjoyment with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, we become happy. We cannot become happy otherwise. It is not possible to be happy independently, just as no one part of the body can be happy without cooperating with the stomach. It is not possible for the living entity to be happy without rendering transcendental loving service unto the Supreme Lord.

That explains religion . Conciousness is actually a field and recent scientific studies point out to the fact that the mind may very well be totally separate from the brain , then space-time collapses , everything is happening all at once and we are receiving signals from  this field . Quantum physics says the brain does not stores information or memory , there is a subject-object split , means when we change the way we look at things the things we look at change ! Suppose I ask - what you had for dinner last night and the answer immediately comes to mind - chicken, vegetables, etc .. have you ever thought where was the answer before I asked the question? It was in this vast field of probabilities and possibilities(zero point field, conciousness,God) and when you focus your attention on it , it collapses ! Before the big bang all the matter and energy in this universe contained in a space tinier than a single atom of hydrogen , so we are already connected , your mind and my mind is actually side by side , so during telepathy , psychic visions , etc we don't reach out and connect to other reality , no , it's called quantum entanglement.

Justified true belief is one definition of knowledge that states for someone to have knowledge of something, it must be true so what you belief becomes true !

It's not a good idea to think that being psychic somehow makes you a "witch" , or it is condemned by God , NO !

Think about it .
