Moolys comment sounds like a movie!1 We usually have a hot day, flies everywhere if you decide to outside after youve eaten, some people have a bbq for Christmas dinner!
IT predicted that we are going to have a really hot summer,so maybe I'll have salad intead:( But i wont give up my trifle!!
I have a fake one (tree that is)
less fuss
less mess
less money (in the long run)
and you can buy some real looking fake trees nowadays
as for the smell, cinnamon always says christmas to me.
we always have a real one, because we live in the country my partner goes and cuts one down :) does make so much mess though and the dogs like to try and eat it not good!!
No Tree!
I hate picking up afterwards. Can you believe it?
I have just put my tree on my profile when i had it up last year, look foryourself the fakie aint to bad!!
We too loved the smell of Christmas and would go into the pasture each year about a week before Christmas and choose and cut a tree. After My brother's house burned with him almost in it, it's been FAKE from then on out. One year I didn't take my tree down until mid July. When I would come across something of Clay's, I would hot glue a ribbon to it and hang on tree. Soon became a memory tree. Better now. 1 ornament goes on in memory of him. It's the first ornament. The angel is the last. It's the hardest. Clay being the oldest child had the job of putting the star on. One year afterwards I didn't/couldn't put the star on. As I said it has and is getting a little easier. But FAKE tree it is. We can build memories around our fake tree.
There's nothing better than the smell of a fresh Christmas tree. I just love the smell of Christmas period. Apple pie, Cinnamon, Pine, Cranberry, Crisp clean air after a good snow fall. My Grandmother's house was the best of all, I never want ed to go back home.
I have to use a fake one because of my lease but I think I would get a fake one anyway. I like having my tree up my Thanksgiving and then a couple weeks after Christmas. I just love Christmas!!!!
I use a fake one. There were so many fires from real ones and you can't leave them up as long before they dry out. They do make a mess, but I do love the smell of the real ones.
HelpinUtah,i thought that you were starting to say that your mum was allergic to kids LOL
$80 to $100 bucks for real one great real NO get fake $38 and i can use it for years!! Then theres hassles of getting rid of it nah! I got a new one a couple of years ago and its pretty good looking tree. Not having Christmas day at my house this year so I am thinking about not putting it up at all.
That's a great idea, Suzi! I might just do that :-) Thanks!
Heather...it is time to update! I finally got one of the "easy" trees last year and it is just soooooo great! I used to have to do all that color coding also....after so many years you can't even see the color anymore! It drove me crazy! Go out the day after Christmas and get one! You will be glad you did!
I also grew up with real trees, and I just LOVE the way they smell! But unfortunately, we have too many crazy animals in the house, so fake for us ;-)
I'm a bit jealous of jenmom's tree, though... we have the kind you have to add all the branches before decorating. Even with the color coding, that part always takes forever!
Fake tree!
We had a real tree a couple times growing up and the needles would fall off and get stuck in the carpet, and it seemed like even a month after Christmas we'd still be getting our feet poked with sharp little needles once in a while.
Plus, my fake tree is the kind you take out of the box, the branches fall into place, and is pre-lit, so it's super easy to set up and put away. I love it!
I would love to have a real tree but I live in an apt building and rules are rules...lol. Now if I can just figure out how to keep my cat from being the star on top...lol...HMMMM.
LOL! I just saw what I put for my first sentence - of course, I meant to say real tree - not kid!!! LMAO!!!!
Real, always. I put it up the day after Thanksgiving and take it down the 1st Saturday after New Years. I am also "THAT" person that everyone stops at their house and stares. Always wondering, "How much do you think their electric bill is?" Hee hee. I lost count of how many lights I put up and it's more every year. Inside and outside. I am a big kid.
I had real ones for years, but I like to decorate early and it would get so dry and be on its last leg by the time Christmas came around. So I bought a fake tree and it was awful--took me so long to put each branch on and fluff and it looked fake. So I donated it and have been buying real trees again. I do love the smell (but it doesn't last long in this excessively dry climate). I usually burn cinnamon-scented ones around Christmastime, but I'll look for a spruce-scented candle this year.
Growing up we always had a real kid even though my mother was allergic to pine. She couldn't help herself she loved the smell of the real tree in the house. But, I now use a fake tree since my mother has COPD now and lives with us. It's too hard on her lungs. I wish we could get real ones though! They bring a smell to the house that reminds me of the memories of Christmas as a child!
Fake here cuz I LOVE to decorate the house the day after Thanksgiving and keep it up til after New Years day. A real one dies before that so thats why I do a fake one. I have some nice candles and they make the house smell all festive. I have a few different evergreen kinds and the cinnamin (sp) and pumpkin pie ones are so warm and cozy smelling!!! I love to decorate the house when the kids are all not home, so that when they come home, they come home to a surprise of the warm red and green colors and the lights strung on the mantle and festive happy feeling of the "Holiday Season"!! I love that time of year!! I try to make it a very happy, warm, cozy time here in our home. I make homemade gnocci for a few days and freeze it for Christmas dinner. I make tons of pies and cookies. Even when we are broke, I still try to make it a warm happy time ~ this year will be hard financially but we have so much to be thankful for! Thats why I start at Thanksgiving time. It just kicks off that time of year to be together and thankful!! Sorry for the ramble! I know I got a little carried away here!!
No trees. 3 male dogs in the house = no Christmas tree for the Peeks.
We always put up a real tree in the front foyer of our home. It's big and beautiful. In the den we have another real tree and the grand-babies decorate it. That's my favorite tree. I have to be careful with candles, we have cats and they are so nosey.
