What do you consider yourself?

Which one of the following do you consider yourself to be?

I personally am a conservative and vote based on who I think is best for the office.  I am a registered Republican so I could vote in the primaries, but I tend to believe I am more of an independent.

I don't want this to become a bash of each other - just truly interested in where people stand.

Marypops & Melissa:
I understand a lot of the frustration with the way our country has headed and not just under Obama - it started long before Obama and long before even Clinton.  But, I have to respectfully disagree about the Obamas taking vacations at the taxpayers expense.  Our President never honestly has a vacation (none of them have).  They are always interrupted with news in the world and I can't imagine the amount of stress placed on them every single day.  Even their families suffer because their husband and father do not get to spend the quality time with them that he did before.  So, for me, I have no problem with our President and his family using our taxpayer money to take vacations.  They truly are not full fledge vacations anyway.  Just my opinion.

Well, you know Margie it is a free trip for them and why not do some sightseeing on the taxpayers behalf.

Plateletgal,

I actually turn to different news channels as well but when you listen to the liberal stations all that you hear is boring cheap talk.  Nothing that ever is bias.  Also, all they talk about is "Oh obama looks so great in his khaki pants and polo shirt" and "Michelle Obama is so fashionable and love her J. Crew Outfit".  I do not ever remember any President looking so ridiculous and casual when they were visiting other countries.  He should be representing America and making us proud.  Instead, he makes us look like we are just casually visiting this country and hoping that you will believe in what he says. That is a joke.  He needs to represent America not be a tourist.

Mikesimon,

But, it is a right as well as a privledge since voting is not mandated.

Plateletgal,

I agree as well that Republicans are to fault as well but to did not say that Bush was the fault of everything that has happened to this economy.  Although, Bush did start the process of the Goverrnment taking over the automobile makers and of course then the Obama administration took the opportunity and is now running with it.  So, GM and Chrysler are now going to be the next Amtrak.  We all know that Amtrak is not profitable and lost money ever since the Government took over the rail system.  So, we can expect the same to happen with the auto dealers.

As far as the war in Iraq, Bush's administration as well as Secretary of State Colin Powell, made the decision to fight for America since we were attacked with 9/11.  So, I am not sure what you would have done but as far as I am concerned he did the right thing at that time.  Now, at that time, he could not set a timeline since we all did not know what to expect, but he definitely should have had a timeline as to removing our troops after a couple of years after that.  But, I definitely felt alot safer when he was President then Obama as President.  You can say that he is wonderful and that he does so many great things (boy does he have you and others fooled) but when he does not care to fight or take care of serious problems that affect this country then I call him out on it.  You can not tell me that I am not giving him a fair chance when you never gave Bush a chance.  Bush did many things wrong but he also did do alot right.  He kept this country safe for 8 years and also cared about America.  I cannot say that for President Obama.

You said:
"In America, it is a privlege (sic) to vote not a requirement but if you do not vote then you cannot complain about who is in office and in the senate and congress."

It is a RIGHT and not a privilege - the right to vote - does that sound familiar?

I will sometimes watch Fox news, as I prefer to get my information not from one source... but many sources. This way I can make informed decisions.

What cracks me up is all of the e-mails that I received from my Republican friends before the election. All of these people were convinced that Obama was a muslim and had terrorist ties. LOL ! Now that certainly wasn't the truth ! ; ^ )   I also feel the same way as Melissa in the sense that I am frustrated with many Republicans, as I feel they cannot see the truth. I think the fact that Democrats were right about Iraq, torture and other issues... and the Republicans were wrong... speaks volumes. They were wrong about Obama before the election and I feel that they are still wrong about Obama and definitely not giving him a fair shake, especially considering the cards that this man was dealt with... courtesy of the Bush administration.

Plateletgirl,

I guess that you of course are one of those that thinks that we should have a fairness doctrine.  But, as you know, Fox is #1 while MSNBC and CNN lack the audiences and content that Fox does have.  I guess that is why Fox has more viewers and material that is fair and balanced than any other channel.

I know that I am coming in late but as Margy knows I have not been feeling well.  But I am back now.

Redheadaussie,
I totally know what you are saying about if Americans were required to vote.  But, unfortunately, not just Americans vote here.  That is what they tell you but we always have organizations that basically recruit Americans and immigrants that vote many many times, with names like Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck and we also have immigrants register as dead people or someone that is out of the country on business etc.  So, if we actually had a system that was fair, it would not be a problem.  But, as we all know people will do anything to make sure that they get what they want no matter if they are Democrat or Republican.  In America, it is a privlege to vote not a requirement but if you do not vote then you cannot complain about who is in office and in the senate and congress.  So, the bottom line is we need a system that works correctly.  But as long as we have evil and misleading politicians on both sides then it will remain this way.  Unfortunately, we can voice our concerns and write to our congressman or Senator, but they just do not really seem to care.  They are more worried about if they will be getting funding for what they want and if they will be elected again.  I do not know if you are aware of this but every  senator and congress member gets 1.3 - 4.5  million dollars a year to run their office as well as receive money from private and special interest groups.  When the get so much money for discretionary expenses then I would expect them to listen to what the voters are saying and try to do what is best for Americans.  But, this is not the case.

Margy,

i do not have to really explain how I feel regarding President Obama since you know and many others know as well.  He seems to know much more about the muslim and Islamic religion and can quote the Karan more than he can even quote what he supposedly believes in; Christianity.  But at every chance he gets puts this religion down with his words and actions as well as putting Americans down.  But, of course you cannot expect some to understand or see the truth behind his eyes and what he is really saying.  Other countries our laughing at us and basically think he is a joke.  I do not know why people in this country cannot see the truth.  He believes in something other than what we believe in and proves every time he speaks out of the country that he does not want what is best for America but for what he can do to help the other countries.  And, this was a common beef that people had about Bush but of course changed when a Democrat was put into office.  He has not consideration for anyone else but what is in his best interests. He also proves this anytime he does a speech when he always has to turn his speeches into what his family or he has done to improve Americans and other countries lives.  Maybe instead of focusing on himself and being so arrogant, he should focus on American and our values that were established long long ago and seem to be taken away each and every day.  Freedom is not free and he is definitely proving that.

Well, this is my opinion but do also expect to be attacked by others that do not share my view.  That is fine since we do have free speech, for now.

"I am concerned that many are saying he "rocks" and that is what they see its all Hollywood"

Where does this come from.... Sean Hannity ?  ; ^ )

For the record, my comment that his speech rocked is something I say when I hear anyone deliver a good speech.

Yes it is true many black Americans voted for the first time ,they never had bothered before ,I guess you could say that was to be expected .The Kennedy's speaking out helped him a lot, I think a lot of people including myself didnt here how radical he is until he became President, although it was a concern how anyone would sit in a Church for 20 years and hear Wright rant about America , get married and have your children christened in that Church,  when he talked about changing America I wasnt aware how far he was and is willing to go.We are on the road ,yes a lot of folks are looking for hand outs and be looked after by the government they want money taking away from those who have earned it to give it to folks that havent earned it. I dont think he likes this country I think he has found a challengeand an agenda ,to change and remake America ...As an Immigrant it makes me sad I hope he doesnt succeed but I fear it may be too late..I am concerned that many are saying he "rocks" and that is what they see its all Hollywood, and he is a younger more exciting President than the others we have had. There is a seperation here between wanting a hollywood type as a President and his Policies...the liberal left simply want a Rock Star..That is my view and only my view we get a lot of flak here as mostly as you can see the views are liberal, I am an Independant ..for the record

Oh I meant to say.. here in Aus it's compulsory to be a registered voter. We get fined if we don't vote. I reckon if everyone was made to vote in USA it would be a really amazing outcome!
I was in USA last August/Sept and saw how many Black Americans (am I allowed to use that phrase?) were lining up to register to vote, in California. I wondered if Obama would have got in if it were compulsory to vote. I know many Oregonians where I was staying were very ANTI Black president. In fact I was stunned at how White most of Oregon is!  Very strange for me, and very educational too.

I am a registered democrat.  Having said that....I have never voted a straight ticket.  I came close this time around.  But as others have said....I am sick and tired of the party politics of this country.  If we can come out here and talk comfortably about our ideas and not get in each others faces and entertain each other with new prospectives and new ideas, then why can't our voted officials and why do we keep voting for these morons..I expect because it seems that only a moron wants to run... Ha.  Someone said earlier...pick the lesser of two evils....it does truly come down to that very thing some times.

I only heard bits of the president's speech.  And I think it takes a lot of guts to go to a Muslim arena and speak of tolerance of other ways of life....

Yes I voted for him and mostly I appreciate what he's trying to do...though I may not always agree with his methods...However, if I was smart enough to be an adviser...I wouldn't be sitting here now would I...  : )

Margy, Did you listen to the speech? He broached many subjects with many different cultures. One speech is not going to do a lot but come on! E for Effort! I was proud at the way he handled a very iffy at best situation. I personally am proud of the way he represented America. Long overdue I say!

I expect our President going to give a big speech to Christians/Catholics , didnt he go to a catholic school at one time before or after the Muslim one,  when he is in France , then maybe.. if he ever gets invited to Israel again .... he will give another  speech there ., does anyone know the ratio of Catholics /Christians in our Country compared to the Muslims we have here?.

I'm a registered democrat, but haven't voted that party for many years.  My father, 2 uncles, brother and nephews fought in various wars to preserve our freedom and believe me - when they say freedom isn't "free" - it's true......  I'm definitely Pro American.................

I make every effort to check out the candidates and know what each one stands for.  I'd probably qualify for independent.  The problem is, even though there have been some pretty good candidates on the independent ticket, they don't stand a chance with our 2 party system.

I don't trust any politicians because if they aren't already corrupt and have their own agenda when they get elected, they will soon; therefore, I generally try to pick "the lessor of 2 evils"......

Well, since it was Muslims he was talking to, I guess it was directed at them. I watched it live, before it could be come a political game for all the analysts. I was impressed.
