What’s your best tip to cure Athlete's Foot???

Hello,

Well, for starters, thank you for taking the time to read my posting.

A few weeks ago I noticed that the soles of my feet were dry & that the skin was cracking (as if the bare foot had been dragged across a rough surface...which was not the case). I bought moisturizer so as to soften the skin, yet the rough skin exterior persisted. Then came the itching & burning sensation (feet).

I checked online & found out I had Athlete's Foot  (something I nerver had before & I am baffled as to how I got it in the first place...I read a list as to how it can be gotten, yet none of the scenarios applied to me).

I could kick myself for not realizing the significance of this problem sooner, yet I also have never had to deal with a fungal infection either (ergo my naivity). Well, needless to say I wish I did not have this at all or, at least, realized what it was sooner.

Has someone on this forum any experiance/knowledge of said condition? And, if so, could you please share with me what either worked best for you, or someone you know, as to the best remedy?

I thank you in advance for all of your help and understanding.

Ben

Dear ChitChatNine,

Thank you ever so much for your input as well! :o)

Avon, huh? Well, it would never have occured to me...

Does said "terrific inexpensive Anti-Fungal foot spray" have a name  or number whereby I could order it?

So, once again, thank you for the advice & for sharing! :o)

Once you rid the problem, Avon makes a terrific inexpensive Anti-Fungal foot spray that I use especially between my toes on a regular basis and it works really well!

Lamisil cream .. they make generic brands I believe .. that works well.

Dear jd,

Thank you also for responding.

As a teenager my dermatologist prescribed me Accutane for Acne Conglobata (white, stress, acne that can lead to scarring). You normally only take it for 3 months (as it dries you up from the inside out...ergo toxic). I ended up having to take it for 4 1/2 months, hence I'd rather avoid (if possible) oral antifungal meds.

Have a good weekend! :o)

Be careful with oral meds for toenail fungus (lamisil, sporanox, etc) as they are very dangerous to your liver!

A fungus needs a moist warm damp environment to survive. It should not be able to survive in things like carpet or woodwork. Bleach will kill the fungus in damp areas of the bathroom. You could pick this up anywhere like a shower at the local gym, spas, or sometimes even going barefoot in the wrong places. My mother suffered from this and it was manageable with otc meds with the exception of the nails. Tannic acid in the tea kills the fungus and soaking the feet allow it to soak well into the trenches if ya no what I mean. This method cured my moms ailment as well as many old folks in the local nursing home. And I do it on myself from time to time just as a preventative. You can also use tea bags but they are more expensive in the long run. All it is is a yeast infection on the foot. Internally you could use things like garlic etc, probably got it inthere too!

Dear redheadaussie,

"Cut your feet off...."

Hmmm, sounds a bit extreme to me! :o)~

"First of all get some strong bleach and clean out your shower recess or bath tub."

I have done that...and then some (ceramic tiles on my bathroom floor got the industrial strength Lysol treatment).

"Buy a pair of thongs (flip flops) and wear them in the shower."

That I had not thought about...great idea! :o)

"Next buy some Lamisil. It works wonders!"

I tried the Lamasil AT spray tonight, yet its a tiny bottle (empty after one application, covering the bottom surface area of both feet, hence I may have to switch to the cream instead if I need to keep this regimen up 2X daily for 4 weeks).

"If you share a shower then it is most important you let others know you have tinea (Athlete's foot) as they may get it too. It is highly communicable in those moist damp shower areas."

I, fortunately, don't have to share a shower (ergo one less worry), yet I'd like to know how communicable it is on non-moist/damp surfaces?

Cheers!

Dear swampcritter,

Thank you for your advice as well (from a Community leader no less).

"Wear clean socks.

Go barefoot when you can, fungus likes moisture and warmth. Going barefoot makes it grow slower."

1.) I change socks three times a day in order to keep my feet dry.

2.) I would go barefoot if I could, yet I'm concerned with re-infection (does such a fungus adhere to built-in carpet & wooden flooring in warm weather?).

Dear teko,

Thank you for the iced tea mix suggestion. That would be great if it worked! :o)

I have two concerns...

1.) I don't just have Athlete' Foot between my toe nails (early stage?), but rather also on the sides of my feet & underside of both feet (worst area affected) + the toe nails. I have no idea for exactly how long the fungul infection has been going on (asymptomatic), hence it could have been a few weeks.

2.) Soaking my fungus? Wont that just make it happy?

Cut your feet off....ha ha just kidding!

First of all get some strong bleach and clean out your shower recess or bath tub. Make sure any bath maths are cleaned regularly. Buy a pair of thongs (flip flops) and wear them in the shower. Do the cleaning at least once a month.

Next buy some Lamisil. It works wonders!

Wear nylon socks not cotton. Contrary to popular belief cotton actually retains moisture and nylon wicks it away. Allowing those tiny fungi to be most upset at not having a good environment to play Little Piggies with your toes.

If you share a shower then it is most important you let others know you have tinea (Athlete's foot) as they may get it too. It is highly communicable in those moist damp shower areas.

Cheers!

There are a number of effective OTC treatments. You should select one that fits with your habits.

Wear clean socks.

Go barefoot when you can, fungus likes moisture and warmth. Going barefoot makes it grow slower.

Or you can go to the doctor and he will write you a script for something that may or may not work. This is the cheap effective old fashioned way. Before doctors got there greedy paws on it. lol

Get some cheap iced tea mix. Put about hlf cup tea in hot water and do a foot soak for about 20 minutes a few times a week. It is the tannic acid in the tea that works. Gets rid of those nasty thick toenails as well. Do the soak every nite or at least a few times of week until problem subsides.
