Who still buys from China? And if so what?

I've never done this before so hopefully it works out right.  Hee Hee.  I just love poll questions.  I saw the Victoria Secret post and just thought I would share one that a friend had shared with me a while back.  I thought you all might want to read about their hairbands.
It is:  http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/hairband.asp

So my poll question is:  Who still buys stuff from China?  And if so what would you feel safe buying?

I will look for made in somewhere other than China from now on, actually I had a look whilst shopping today but the store seemed to have clothes all made in China , they have to get making more in the US and then we'd buy it. Why do we have to have everything made in other countries, I wonder which clever government is liable for that mistake.

I'm a label reader and if it says made in China I put it back down. Look at Wal Mart. They used to proudly say made in the USA. Now most everything there is made in China. We need the jobs here in our country. Please look at the labels to see where it's made. It's more work but it's worth it. Remar

My kids always look for the "Made in China" stamp or sticker, even my 4 year old can spell it. If they see it they say "Okay, Momma, we just won't eat it" It is sort of a joke in the house.

I try not to buy, but as others have said, it is hard to find US made items anymore. I live in apple country, so we get the local stuff when we ever get apple juice. We are generally more likely to eat the fruit than drink the juice, but I love apple cider ;-)

i know, you would never think we couldn't use AMERICAN APPLES, have to get them all the way from China, on well known AMERICAN brands.  but really, you have to check everything.  it's amazing how few products are american made.

Thanks for the apple juice info!  My husband loves it and once again, it never crossed my mind to check the lable on that particular product.  I hope it's carried in our stores in Texas!

I agree it is disgusting, and I try to avoid, but like you said, sometimes there is no alternative, which *****.  my 6 year old checks labels on everything after I had to get rid of all of her Polly Pockets last year, she says "why do the Chinese hate us?"  and she may have something to that.  mostly, they do it because it's cheaper and apparently they have a different set of conscience, but maybe she's right, maybe there's some American hatred mixed in there too.

If you can tell me where to find US-made shoes, I'll buy them!  There are so many things that were once manufactured here in the States that you can't find at all these days.  Now are animals and people are becoming sick from melamine-laced products from China.  When in the world are we going to say NO to importing from them?  There's a reason our manufacturing jobs went overseas, and it wasn't "greed."  When the government taxes so much of your profit, then why stay in business?  Might as well ship those jobs overseas as keep the business going as long as possible.  That is, until the government changes tariff laws or decides to add a VAT tax or any other tax that punishes business.  Sorry - didn't mean to get into a big political post, but it's all snarled up into what's happening here today.

My mother and mother-in-law were adults when the Cold War really got rolling.  They are appalled that we even speak to the "Red Chinese" as am I when I really think about it.  Remember the domestic pet hair scandal several years ago when dog and cat hair was found in animal toys and human clothing?  It's still going on.  The Humane Society managed to smuggle out tape of a furrier operation.  The dogs were kept in a dark cave for their short lives and dragged out by a back leg when it was time to kill them.  Nothing humane about it.  They start at one rear ankle and skin the poor thing alive.  It's cheaper after all, and doesn't damage the pelt.  I about vomited.  These are the kinds of people to whom the USA has granted "Most Favored Nation" status.  I think I need to vomit again...

I try not to buy from China, but I am sure I do sometimes, it is hard to tell always.  There is only one brand of apple juice made in USA -- Indian Summer, if you look on the back of the rest, they are all from China, brands you think are American brands.

I used to buy a lot of items to save money until everything started getting recalled.  Sometimes I still buy something's by mistake but I'm very careful to not buy my kids (animals) any toys or treats.  I was buying cloths up till tonight's Victoria Secret news and now I'm leery of them too.

P. S.  INPORTANT INFORMATION.  The FDA recall list is free to get on.  It will alert you via emails of anything that has been recalled.  Example, Rx.drug's, food, toys, etc.  Most of it never hits the news and like I said it is free to get and keep you and your loved ones protected.

The address is:  http://www.fda.gov/opacom/7alerts.HTML

Take care and keep safe.
