You are the only 2-3 people in the world who would say this. Nothing wrong with being a minority.

What is actually going on here is corruption, and no one can stop that. Bush is a token, a robot. He has no mind or values. His and Cheney s actions are connected to $ issues, even family $ issues.

Even the Republican party is counting the days. except that McCain has also not been able to keep up. But McCain could be ill. I don t know.

Swampy, the dem's only controlled congress for perhaps two years. Saying that this happened on thier watch is kind of like saying "Scott drove Fred's car today and it broke down, it's Scott's fault!"

when Fred hasn't bothered to do proper maintenance on the engine for over five years.

One thing we can't claim is the democrats have had any power in the past 8 years. Now that they do have control (marginally) of congress, most issues get locked and vetoed by the president...so it's a minimal control.

But it's still the fault of both parties. It's ironic you mention the great depression; I was just discussing with someone how there are laws and regulations that were put into effect by Roosevelt afterwards to prevent such an economic crisis again.

Yet in the past 12 years, a great deal of those protections have been dismantled and removed. With those regulations in effect, the whole con- artist operation of sub prime loans couldn't have happened.

So despite learning those lessons, they did there best to repeat the situation.

But the only thing that has to do with the political parties is both are responsible for allowing the situation to happen. Of course, the republican's had control of the situation during the majority of the timeleading up to the crisis...but I don't recall any democrat's speaking out about the dangers of the situation that may develop.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Great Depression? Hmmm... if so, it will be different. I, however, have little faith in the feds and the economists. The fed's are...well...the fed's, and economists are VERY good at explaining after the fact how their theories fit the situation, but not so great at before.

After all, both have done a wondrful job of seeing to it the dollar dropped from a position as a market standard over the past two decades.

I support President Bush too,  and I think in the future he will be regarded as an effective president.

Just like Clinton,  for some reason the opposing parties have to denigrate the president to the point that they appear stupid and ineffective.  Clinton was neither,  either,  in fact,  he was a very gifted diplomat and leader.

Bush and his party are not the cause of this misery.  If anything, it's the democrats who are to blame for making money too available to people in income levels that couldn't support the loans.  Middle class home buyers who bought more house than they could possibly afford,  and lending institutions who were so greedy they'd take any mortgage loan - even ones they knew for certain would fail - are to blame.

No,  we're not headed for another Great Depression.  The economic lessons learned at the beginning of the Depression were learned well - although almost no one in the general population has any idea what actually is going on here,  the Feds do know,  economists do know,  and won't make the same mistakes again.

I support President Bush on his leadership with the War on Terror and several social issues. The spending that he and Congress has passed I do not support.

This is a pretty bad failure of leadership.

The democrats control congress, though, and this happened on their watch. There was wide bipartisan support for the GSEs, there was wide support for loan securitization, as it has some real advantages.

People are angry at the greedy bankers, but these greedy bankers worked out a system where many people could buy homes that formerly could not, and many people could buy a second home. Though foreclosure rates climbed, people probably still got a better place to live than they otherwise would have had. And smart (plus maybe lucky) ones will come up with a way to keep the house.

The number one problem is that home prices fell, and just like Japan entered a serious and long term recession when their prices fell, so could the US. But the US system has flexibility that Japan does not.

I also don't want myself or my dd paying for the greedy ceo's or the faltering banks that made bad decisions out there.  This situation is so infuriating to me...why are the good people who do the right thing, pay their bills, work hard, save for retirement, etc. always the one to take the big blow??  Who is going to bail out my 401K after this mess is over????

Did everyone read that email about if they just divied up the bailout and gave the money to every adult in America instead??  Roughly $250,000 to each person over 18y.  What would most people do then???  Pay off their mortgage...bingo...money back into banks.  (not sure of the math or logistics on this one but it is a very appealing idea to me anyways!)

Greed and irresponsible deregulation laws caused all of this. It just goes to show you how connected we are. It is sad and unacceptable that the taxpayers in this country are the ones who feel it.

i agree itis going to hurt especially small business owners like yourself.. but it isnt the end of the world we will get through this...but they are acting rashly and too fast as long as the have a answere by next week the stock market will survive.. wht dont they seize all the assets of the ceo;s and other officers of the co.'s in trouble rather then them getting big bonuses for warching their co. go down the drain and trhe stockholders losing everything... if they did that thenm i would agree to the "bailout pkg"

I am a supporter of President Bush but his bail out plan was terrible and the conservatives in the house and senate saw that and made a stand. $700billion with Wall Street doing nothing and passing it on to our kids is BS. So the republicans made a stance and the liberals will not budge. The liberals want all to accept so that they can point the finger back at republicans if it fails.

This is not the end of our economy nor is it going to send us into a depression.

this isnt the end of the world.. it is going to hurt but this had to happen... wall street and these banks, were just out of control and it was going to happen at some point, borrowing 700billion from china and giving it back to the ones that cuased the problem is no answere.. i am not near smart to know waht the answere is but doing that so my grandchildren would be paying it off is not the answere
