.........With the house you live in?

Can a person really know what type of a person .. with the house you live in? I ask this because recently we went to a sustainability festival and that was the number one question people asked as a "getting to know the type of person you are". I think this is hogwash but wanted others opinions. Can your house tell anything about you ir is it how you keep your house that people really want to know...lol

In response to your question, I am going to say NO NO NO, you cannot tell what kind of person someone is based on the house they live in, for example,

someone may live in a tiny little house, that is falling down around them and be the nicest person going that would give their last dollar, and quite the opposite you could have a nice newer house and have the witchiest person living there, who feel it is their god given right to do what ever they choose.  I say that because my daughter was collecting money for jump rope for heart last year, the worst house on the block the lady gave her 3 rolls of pennies $1.50 one of the nicer houses she was told I do not give to any charities like that, I send money to my own things.. I was quite suprised as this lady has money, even a dollar would have sufficed, but.. anyway.. was a lesson for my daughter, just when you think "oh that person is soo lucky to have that house, car etc... look beyond the material things, and look at the actual person, you may be suprised by what you find.

I live in a big house too big , so much work to keep up with or get someone or leave it, and problem is I have a ton of old stuff from England and as it has memories (seems like of Victoria herself, the Queen that is)I gest, I dare not part with any of it so I have to drag it around forever or my kids wont speak to me as they have tabs on it all, well I have just had a thought maybe I;ll give it to them before I snuff it and then there is no problem I want to sell it ,but dont want to lose money in it, will have to wait till the housing market bottoms and goes up again, any guess anyone when that will be ,has anyone a Chrystal ball out there.,

I love these comments! I love my tiny little house, however I would like a much bigger house! It will still be very energy efficient, but will also have plenty of room for my little baby boy to crawl and eventually run and play! I want a craft room!!!!! I loveeeeee doping crafts! I sew my own curtains, by hand, I have an old sewing machine but I'm not sure it even works.. (it is an old singer passed down from my husbands grandmother). But I just love doing things like putting your special touch to your house!!

Chris- your house sounds very inviting! I wanted old barnwood siding put on our house.. DH won with doing it with stucco! Maybe the next house or the addition!

Thanks everyone!

My home is filled with the people I love, and whom love each other.  You will witness laughter, fun, sarcasm, and lots of talking.  I don't know, you tell me?  I guess that DOES say alot about me.

I live in a small home. I have never liked housework and can always find something else to do instead of it, but my home is far from being dirty. I guess what I mean is that I prefer a "lived in" look. My walls are covered with shelves and knick knacks as I love antiques and have them in every room. If I had a brand new home, I would do all I could to make it look older. My living room is trimmed in barnwood and also has barnwood from the floor up about 3 feet. I have a wood stove with river rock on the wall behind it, and a built in entertainment center made entirely of barnwood.
My living room is my most favorite room in my house and I feel the most comfortable and I spend the majority of my time in there.
I am a good natured, easy going person, and think that my home does reflect the kind of person that I am.

I live in a fairly big home with a wide open floor plan and large kitchen.  It's interesting because I am not a great cook and I don't enjoy cooking.  I don't think my home says much about me.  My dream home would be a very old fieldstone farmhouse surrounded by a few acres of land (meadows filled with wildflowers and a creek).  That probably says more about me then my current home.

I would say yes and no.  I've owned a lot of very different homes but one thing that always have in common is that they are all quite unique.  I would say that I have never lived in or had any wish for a brand new house.  I like them well lived in with mature trees.  I currently live in a house built in the '30's with gorgeous big woodwork and wood floors.  We always buy homes that need work so we are in a perpetual renovation state.  The decorating in the house does say a lot about the person.  I love colour and quirkiness and must have a well stocked kitchen.  I like things clean but am guilty of being messy.

I own 2 homes...both split levels (just about the only kind you find in our little community).  I like neutral tones...my mom says it's boring lol.

But to answer your question I would say both yes and no, but I don't think it's fair to judge a book by it's cover or a person by their home. :)

I don't think this question would work well for those of us that rent. ;)

My house is an extremely small strawbale house. I have very earthy toned paint colored walls (different color in each room). My walls are 22 inches thick and covered in stucco, so I can't put anything on the walls. rats!! When my husband designed and started building this house it was just for him, then he asked me to marry him and I brought two kids to the family...lol Then we had a TR and then had Brayden so now it is WAY TOO SMALL! We are planning on building an addition or a whole new house and when we do I can hopefully bring out my Safari themed home interior pics that we have stored in the garage. But in all reality, I like things very simple, not too cluttered, and very clean all over!

Well my house, that we just sold :( because of the stupid ARMY. Was a single family home, 2 story house. About 13 years old. I would say your average home. I would say simple but updated.
I guess it does say something, im more of a modern & contemporary person. I would say my house said that about me.

I dont know about now dang small a** apartment now. I hate it!!!!

i live in a kind of big house, the downstairs is very relaxing and comfortable, whenever people come over they say it makes them so comfortable and it makes them feel as if they were home. which my family and i are very laid back people, easy going, and we get along with others very well. i guess the way you decorate or keep up with your house, does in some way show what kind of person you are. but there are some ways where it doesn't work, where people's houses are totally different than how they act or really are.

We live in a simple house, very, very modest by the standards around here.  Small, one level.  Not a lot of knickknacks or decorating.  Everything is functional and pretty minimalistic.

Our house in NC is much the same.

I guess it does say something.

I live in what is called a Sugar Maple Split.  What that is, in reality, is a split level house with a dutch front inspired from the 1700's where Dutch was very prevalant in my community.

Now does that tell you something about me .. maybe.

I'm not ultra modern, given I could have gotten a contemporary split level?
