I'm with you on that. They adopt and make a huge deal over how much they're helping these children and their country. Why aren't they helping our country?? There are a huge number of children in foster care in the US, why aren't they adopting them. I wonder sometimes if it's harder for them to adopt here in the US. If they can just flash their money around and get things done faster in these third world countries. While adopting in the US is too long a process for them.
I didnt think about that one Angel, I assumed with her star status /finances she would get adoption here, well it isnt that easy in Afica apparently either as it was turned down,
That is so true. Haven't you heard of the famous quote 'When everybody thinks alike, no one is really thinking' ??
Just because someone started doing it, everybody now wants to do it maybe because it's good for their career or maybe because they recognize that those countries are poorer than ours and so adopting children is a good way to help out. I know some of them work towards helping homeless children around the world, so maybe some just want to set an example and motivate others to help orphans. They could very well start doing it here!! You don't really need to go very far to see a child in need.
Good question. I knew of some local people who adopted a child from the Soviet Union. It was much easier and quicker.
As for the celebrities, maybe they feel that they are truly plucking a child from a horrible fate, which is probably true. Maybe some of it is the risk of having somebody show up from this country and say, you have my child, or any of the other possible strings that could be pulled in the future. In some cases I don't think the media has done celebrities any favors, or maybe in this case, adoptable children, when they constantly demonstrate how far they are willing go in order to dig up malicious gossip. Unfortunately, another consideration may be that they just want the attention. I don't know, I'm just throwing it out there.
As for turning Madonna down, maybe it's just another case where a big media story hasn't helped her on either end. Maybe people in that part of the world just aren't quite so convinced that Americans are all that great.
Think about how Madonna must be feeling, the media coverage, then turned down, OUCH!!!
It must be as PK says, a trend without much thought behind it. If all these stars really wanted to do good, they would pour some money into a local institution to improve the situation of children right there without pulling them out of their environment. But they are acting more like lunatics going to a pet store, getting all emotional if a helpless kitten or puppy looks at them. I cheered when I heared Madonna`s second adoption attempt was declined. It only shows that those people have some healthy pride despite their poverty.
I heard again on the news that the Orphanage didnt want her to have a life in another country that her culture and her life was Africa ,the judge saw the reasoning that the child would be happeir with her roots, I think Madonna would be better helping the Ophanage to get the children adopted in Africa ,putting her money into that, then adopting a child in need from her own country.
