Hey, in ten, twenty years...I'll bet you that books WILL have commercials. :->
Actually, I've at the end and beginning of certain types of books (cheap romances and sci fi) they put advertisements for other books. So we are on our way.
I also love to read. My kids control the t.v. most nights but it doesn't bother me I just read my books. They don't have commercials.
Cable? They still have that?!?!
I haven't had a working t.v. in over a year now. If I want to watch it, I pull it up on the computer screen.
Of course, I miss out on quite a bit this way...but I'm finding it's for the better. Half the time given the choice between fighting to get the bloody video player on a site to work and reading...I end up going with the book.
Books tend to involve less tech support!!! :->
They do show the same episodes over and over - Ava doesn't mind much and I love singing to the songs. =) I also like that they have many different ethnic groups on Noggin that they actually have real people teaching the kids and not just strictly animated shows.
Ava just loves Blues Clues. Every time it comes on she dances, and giggles, I love watching her get into the show.
I feel that it helps to socialize my baby... even though she is not getting physical contact from different people, she is atleast being exposed to more men and more races.
Our house would be a wreck without The Discovery Channel. We watch that more than any other channel hands down. Next in line is Food Network, you don't know funny until you have a 2 year old acting out the "Chairman" on "Iron Chef."
My kids used to love Noggin, back when it was really commercial free and just started. Now it is simply a Nick Jr.-light. Shows like Lazytown send a positive message. Not so sure about some others on there, they have gotten so repetitive, showing the same 5 episodes over and over for the last few years we stopped watching it most of the time.
I do miss PBS Sprout, the kids really enjoyed that channel just before bed.
I have cable and we lost science channel and we lost discovery channel for a while. My son was very upset. We got discovery channel back but never got science channel back. I think it ***** because you pay the same amount weather you have them or not.
No, it's not PBS, it's a channel all its own from Nickelodeon, but it is very educational and great!
Ah, ok. Thanks! I wonder why I don't get that? Is it just on cable or PBS? I do get PBS. My 4 year old LOVES Word World. I think that's a cute show and it helps them with letters and spelling out words, etc.
April,
Noggin is a t.v. channel that shows pre-school programming and it's educational in many ways; spanish language, chinese in one cartoon, sharing, caring, learning, etc. I think it's great and my son really enjoys watching it. We have direct t.v. and that I know, there are no threats to remove Noggin.
Can I ask what Noggin is? Sorry, I've never heard of it! You've got me curious now. :)
wait hold up, I too have time warner and the contract with viacom has been settled, we are not losing anything, Now I Hve worked all weekend so unless something has changed since friday noggin will be safe
BH- DB and I saw the same message go across the screen the other day and nothing happened, all of our channels are the same as far as I can see. We were upset that Nickelodeon would be taken off cause we do watch that station every once in a while. It said that 18 other stations were being removed too. I was going to call and cancel but I waited a few day and like I said all our stations are there.
If they do get rid of any stations we will be switching to AT&T.
AMY you must have charter... I have ATT UVERSE! Its new in a lot of areas and they have all the kids channels its great! I would look into it
I read about this on the news. It must be something with the New Year and contracts or something because OUR local cable company is saying that we're going to lose FOX, NBC, and CBS because of rate hikes! What the heck!!!???!!! Hopefully they'll reach an agreement before we lose 3 major channels. Several months back we were without ABC for several weeks until they reached an agreement. I don't understand how it all works, but it doesn't make sense at all!
It looks like they may have come to an agreement or the channels would have already been cutt off at midnight on the 31st right? Maybe I'm getting my panties in a bunch for no reason.
How the heck can they DO this when we pay a month in advance for these channels?
I could carelss about Comedy Central or the numberous MTV channels they want to cutt - I just care about keeping Noggin for our girls.
I do have Time Warner. How can I find out which other channels are going to be pulled? I have not received ANY news from Time Warner about this at all.
I have only cable with them now, but used to have internet and phone with them but they kept billing me for someone else's phone number. They also tried to charge me $176 to install ONE jack in my house when I moved. I was so po'd!! I got my first bill and it was over $450 because they were billing me for a totally different phone number that I had never heard of. They really are a crappy company!
I loved it when we had comcast or charter.
idk what cable company you have but i work for comcast and we were told that all time warner customers will lost 18 channels do to a dispute with time warner and viacom. so that def does S*uck i would be irate!
Time Warner is a crappy company, but so are the networks. Over here those with Dish haven't had ABC in weeks.
This is one time I am happy to have a tiny little local cable company, we didn't have Disney for a long time (now we do) and we don't have a gazillion HD channels, but we have escaped this.
Lay the blame on all of them, Malissa. They are all greedy jerks. As much money as both make it is absurd they are demanding more.
What the heck.. That stinks. We still have Noggin but we have satellite and not cable. Quinn loves Noggin, Sprout and Baby First TV....
I am sorry, I would be pretty po'd too.
