Bunny ears

I have several Bunny ears plants I like them a lot a few months ago I noticed 3 were starting to go black, there were bits of white on them first, I have googled relentlessly and cannot find out why they are going black, would anyone know anything.

Wanted to udate you, they seem to be okay , even a really black one is responding to the treatment for mealy bugs ,I am going to spray them again today once the sun has gone down, they are so interesting..... ha Ha, the bunny ears not the mealy bugs ,,as a newcomer to house plants I wasnt aware how really nice they are ...the bunnnies I mean ....

You are an Angel MJ you may have saved all of my bunny ears...I took them to my gardening store and asked them, they said yes looked like Mealy bugs and said clean them off as much as you can and spray them with a spray they gave me...a few of my plants had them.so I hope all is well we came back and immediatly did what he said. Spray again in 2 weeks ..Thanks a lot

Could also be mold. Powdery mildew is another pest, but you described it as cotton like. Mealy bugs are an annoying pest because they drain the juice right out of the plant. If you can take a photo that will help.

Oh darn...and then does the plant go black ? I will google it to see if I can save them ..

Try looking up foliar mealy bugs. See if they look like what you are describing. They are nasty pests that feed off foliage and look like cotton or mold.
