Am I going through early menopause

Hi, I am 39 and my last period was in August 2008.  My blood tests show a FSH level of 66.4, my LH level is 32.6 and my oestradiol level is 93.  I came off the pill over 3 yrs ago & had normal periods before and since then with the exception of missing a period for 2 months around July 2006 - the FSH level at that time was 35.  I do not have children & am not pregnant.   I have an ultra sound appointment on Monday.  Is there likely to be any other explanation apart from early menopause or ovarian failure?  I am not overweight although have put on a little weight recently, especially around  my tummy, but i think i suffer from IBS although not diagnosed.  I've also read that chinese herbs and acupuncture can help reduce the FSH levels, is this true?

No, she is just pretty sure that it is early menopause, unlikely to be anything else.

Yes they checked thyroid - thats all ok.

Well, i've got an appointment for an ultasound today, so we'll see if that reveals anymore!!!!

well, I know you are frustrated. Did she have any other suggestions or just "I don't know, now pay your money on the way out?"  That is what my doc did with the thyroid issue I am having.

Have they checked your thyroid as well?

Hi

I have a print out of the test results and although against some of the other test results the range is quoted, for the 3 results i've listed FSH, LH & oestradiol the range is blank.  My doctor says she has never known anyone how is perimenopausal or menopausal to just have their periods stop for so long, normally they become irregular, stop & starting over a period of time.

Any comments welcome.

Hi. Do you have the reference ranges? if so, please post them.

You are old enough to be perimenopausal, thats for sure.
