Chances are good that it's nothing serious. It may just be the start of perimenopause which can make for unpredictable bleeding. NSAID's (such as ibuprofen) especially a "prescription" dosage can reduce bleeding quite a bit. When you see a doctor you can discuss other medications, hormonal (some type of birth control) or non-hormonal (such as tranexamic acid, brand name Lysteda).

Hope it all settles down for you!
