Fibrod Tumors

I have several large fibrod tumors. They were not a problem until now. I've been bleeding heavily (passing clots) for two weeks. My H&H is low but not alarming. I'm not in menupause yet. It was suggested to have a partial hestorectomy but I'd like to wait until I go through menupause because I was told the fibrods will shrink afterthat. I really don't want to have surgery but I may not have a choice. What do you think is best?

I think that you have the chance and choice to decide what you can and can't live with.  Certainly, there is no danger to waiting for awhile to see what happens and what you decide.  It's certainly not a life threatening situation by any means at this point in time.  Many women will decide upon the hysterectomy because they cannot stand the heavy bleeding anymore or the fibroids keep enlarging and cause more problems.  A lot of women are prepared to simply deal with the longer and heavier periods until their bodies adjust and lower the levels of estrogen naturally...or....they ask about going on Progesterone/combo pills to balance out the estrogen dominance which fibroids feed off of as you likely already know.

If this were me, I'd seek out a second opinion from one more doc and see what alternatives there may be to surgery first.  I'd ask if hormonal supplementation to balance out the estrogen levels might be a satisfactory "compromise" added to your ability to withstand/tolerate these types of periods for awhile.  A lot of women have these types of periods even without fibroids causing them to be like that...ie: purely hormonal imbalances.

So, bottom line here is all dependent upon what you can live with and what you are prepared to do or not do.  And, there may be alternatives to try before deciding to go for surgery as I've mentioned above.

Keep us updated and best of wishes!

I'm having a partial hysterectomy in Jan for other reasons than yours but if you've talked to your doctor and surgery at this point won't endanger your health if you decide not to have it or put it off then I wouldn't rush into it if you are apprehensive. I would also consider how long until you may start going through menopause and if you can live with the heavy periods.
