Perimenopausal?

I have had normal period with cramps all of my life.  I am 48 years old and have had no children.  no hot flashes but still get my period on the exact date it  is due.  However about 11-12 days before my period I get this spotting where its not enough to wear a pad but still very annoying.  I had an endometrial bx in the spring that was normal.  I cannot go on birth control pills to regulate this spotting because I take blood pressure medication and don't think that would be the smartest idea.  What do you think I should do next.  I am so sick of this spotting it is infringing on my life.

Two more comments...

If you are not experiencing menopausal symptoms, use plain natural progesterone and don't buy any creams or supplements that contain other ingredients for menopause like herbal equivalents of estrogen.  The condition of low progesterone/normal estrogen levels is also called "estrogen dominance" so you'll be right back where you started if you use them.  Avoid soy pills or soy milk, too, since soy can mimic estrogen.

And I was reading that there could be a connection between high blood pressure and low progesterone levels, so check your blood pressure if you decide to use it.  You may need to adjust your BP prescription if you notice it helping in that area.  Maybe you should try the cream during the day, so you are awake and can watch for lower blood pressure symptoms.  I didn't think of that in my first post.  It's very gentle, but always good to make sure.

I wish there was an editing feature here... I meant you can find reviews of Pro-Gest along with other brands online at some of the drugstore/health food store websites!

When I was perimenopausal I had very low progesterone levels with abnormal and frequent bleeding.  After being checked for everything else under the sun and having that aspect ignored, I ordered a saliva test done to determine this to be sure and used an over the counter natural progesterone cream (as opposed to synthetic progestin) after trying several, I found Pro-Gest by Emerita to be the most effective.  My sister in law used the same one.  There are more on the market now then there were back then, so I can't speak about those.

It took about 30 days or so to work in my system properly and it also comes in individual dose packets, so it won't go bad as fast as a tube.  You can find this online (along with reviews of that and other brands at several websites) or in health food stores. Most perimenopausal women try it without the saliva test, that is up to you.  I didn't get hot flashes until my estrogen dropped, but had low progesterone for several years before that happened.

You can look online to see if there are any contra-indications with your medication, but the hormone prescription giving women problems that was pulled had progestin in it, not natural progesterone.   If you have had trouble sleeping, this might help, too.

It's a cream you rub into your skin and is absorbed transdermally, the one I mentioned smells a little bit like lemons.  I used it at night about a half hour before bedtime, follow the directions on the package.  hth!  :)
