What causes low Testosterone, Progesterone and DHEA in a 33 yr old Woman?

I just was diagnosed by my doctor with low testosterone, progesterone and DHEA. What causes this? Does anyone here know? I wasn't sure in which forum to post such a question. I have suffered a miscarriage in the past (6 years ago) and am fairly sure it has something to do with this. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am 31 and am currently being treated with both DHEA and progesterone (bioidentical hormones). The results were astounding. When the balance is right--and it requires frequent monitoring--I feel better than I can ever remember feeling. I, too, was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have also been diagnosed over the years with depression, polycystic ovarian disease, bipolar disorder, high cholesterol, insomnia, allergies, interstitial cystitis and more. All of these have decreased or gone away completely after about 3 months of treatment. The best advice I can give about treatment with these is to be patient and keep a journal to write down anything that changes with regard to your symptoms: mood, libido, hair growth and skin condition, motivation, weight changes, sleep and any other areas of concern for you. Some of this is to monitor side effects that may show your dosage needs adjusting, and some of this is to keep track of improvements in your health and quality of life. It can be a bumpy road to begin with, but the destination makes it worthwhile. Good luck!

I have messed up hormone levels and have finally found a doctor who will listen. The first one just gave me estrogen and sent me out the door. It ended up going too high and my progesterone was non existent and he does not believe in prescribing it. I did start on some progesterone and started feeling a lot better but need to cut back the estrogen. Not sure where the testosterone level is, blood tests are due this week. I have had bad mucle aches, feeling crappy, shakes, pins and needles feelings, just awful. My thyroid is in good range. I have take synthroid for over 15 years. My dr says synthroid has some T3 in it as well as T4 but the generic eltroxin does not. I hope when I get all this sorted out that things will be better. I am on bios as well.

4year ago, at age 41, started w/terrible anger issues, thought it was just pent up anger aftger 20 years of marriage but the anger spread to everyone around me, not just angry, I was in a complete rage most all the time, then came physical symptoms of perimenopause, forgetfulness, hot flashes, nite sweats, bladder leakage, weight gain, insomnia, Really, thought I was losing my mind! periods were unpredictable, one monthy heavy, next month barely could be considered a period.  when i started thinking about driving off the road on my way to work, I found a new doctor! I had been to the traditional ob/gyn who recommended HRT, which consisted mainly of estrogen replacement, but declined to take this as I have a family history of both breast and uterine as well as ovarian cancers. went to a family doc to be told I needed a antidepressant.  I did take those for a matter of monthly which relieved the rage issues, but none of the physical symptoms. During the course of these visits none of the doctors bothered to test my hormone levels, just decided that's what the problem was because I was in 'that age bracket'.. When I went to the doc my sis(who is a PA) recommended, they tested my levels, found out my T3 reuptake was high, progesterone was almost non existent and my testosterone was also low.  estrogen was normal.  Something called estrogen dominance.  I had had hypothyroidism for 15 year had been taking synthoid for that.  Found out that synthoid doesn't work for T3 hormone levels,  New doc's change me to Armour thyroid, prescribed a bio-identical hormone replacement cream of 40mg progesterone and 5mg testosterone compound together.  I rub this on my wrists every nite and I have seen the physical symptoms vanish!  I will still have an occassional hot flash when I am REALLY stressed. Every single one of the physical & emotional symptoms were gone.  no more antidepressants either got off of them 6weeks after starting the cream with no problems, lost the weight and over the course of the past 4 years have been able to cut my dose of armour thyroid in half!  I have blood work done once a year if everything is ok, if something changes before that time, they will check it to see if anything needs to be 'tweaked'.  The first year I started this therapy blood was checked every 3 months & had to increase the progesterone from 20 to 40, testosterone was still low but they really don't like increasing it above 5 mg. Periods also normalized to a steady 5 day flow once a month.  This has worked wonders for the past 4 years but guess it's time for a reevaluation, as I have just started having a period every 10 days now and the last one started on Jan 14 and ran until Feb 16.  Not liking that one bit.  I'm thinking this is my push into actual menopause, it's how my mom went thru it at..45..Wow, imagine!  You ladies having the estrogen dominance (low progesterone/testosterone with normal or high estrogen) and the hypothyroid issues, PLEASE keep seeking a doctor who is truly concerned and will run the levels and listen to you!  BTW, those painful muscle issues, body aches, feeling terrible all the time, exhausted, that's been significantly improved also. THERE IS HELP.  Look for a  doctor who deals in bio-identical therapy!  Good Luck!

This is my first round of testing for my hormones. I went to see an endo and he didn't find it necessary to test my hormones. I ended up seeing a doctor who specializes in bio-identical hormones, thyroid and adrenal fatigue. He tested me for everything recently.

I also have hypothyroid for about 5 years now I am 44.  I have been up and down with this. At this time I am feeling awful. I am seeing a new doc and she changed me to a natural thyroid Armour. She is also doing a 24 hour urine to test my hormones. I think I am in perimenopause, could this also contribute to my thyroid not being under control? May start BHRT.

Sorry, but I think you got my post mixed up with the original poster.  i don't have fibromyalgia. I do have hypothyroidism and am on BHRT's. But am not really getting any symptom relief and that is because my thyroid is not  under control. It is not responding to medication. And finding someone that can actually treat the thyroid is nigh to impossible.

A lot  of women have some thyroid problems by the time peri rolls around.

Peggy, how did they find out for sure you have fibromialgia? I think I do since theres nothing else they can test me for with so much aching it HAS to be something!

Since it's in your bloodwork do you habe another hormone panel to compare it to from the past? It sounds like you could just be out of balance or of course peri. It would not have anything to do with anything 6 years ago. We all need an ENDOCRINIOLOGIST if I spelled that right.

I have the high freeT3 as well.

The problem is that there is multi gland failure here, and that is the  absolute worse, because it is hard to tell which is causing the problem. I guess the key is finding a dr that knows how to do that, and good luck with that!  i haven't.
