I do not eat starches very often. Drink only water. Do not eat candy or ice cream. I have gained almost six pounds in three weeks. Primary says thyroid isnt to blame. I do have painful joints, dry thinning hair and dry skin. On no new meds.

Thank you doctor for taking the time to respond.  As I mentioned in my post, my PCP said my thyroid is not to blame. Blood work showed the thyroid to be functioning properly. I had a physical just a few months ago. When I voiced my concern about the weight gain, his response was " women look good with extra padding"!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
These symptoms can be due to hypothyroidism and without checking the thyroid hormone levels, one cannot say for sure. Symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, depression, weight gain, cold intolerance, dry, coarse hair and skin,  constipation ,muscle cramps, decreased concentration, vague aches and pains, menstrual disorders, palpitation and swelling of the legs.

I feel that you should consult a physician and get yourself and your thyroid hormone levels evaluated.
Other than that get your estrogen, progesterone and FSH levels checked as hormonal imbalance in menopause can also cause such symptoms.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
