symptoms

I am 51 and missed a period last month, followed by 12 days of brown spotting beginning this month, followed by a few days off, then more brown spotting, then stopped, then more brown spotting requiring only one tampon each day for 2 days, stopped, then started brown spotting again that included a slightly heavier flow with red blood at present. All of this within the same month within 24 days. Other symtoms, but not out of a typical range, include, fatigue, moodiness-emotional, rapid fluctuation in eating habits, joint aches and pains. Perimenopause/menopause?

I'm 52 years old and I've been having the same problems...PMS symptoms, backache, headache, foggy headedness, sore breasts and this nagging spotting that is sometimes, brown, sometimes red (only enough for a pantyliner) that comes and goes.  I'll go a week to 14 days with none, then have several days of it off and on. During this time frame, my hot flushes disappear (which is nice).  I've been having this happen on and off since early April.

My periods were spacing out over the past 4 years or so and in 2007, I went almost a year without a period, only to have 3 periods again in 2008.  This year has been a mysterious fear.  In between, I've had ultrasounds and PAPs on a yearly basis, mammograms etc....everything I should be doing.  I'm now awaiting the results of my PAP and an ultrasound that I had done last week and scared.  I'm supposed to be booked in with a gynecologist to have another look because of this spotting.  Naturally, I'm scared of uterine cancer being the cause.

But...I can say that if you are 47 years old, you're going to be all over the place for a bit of time...NOT 10 years!!!  You could go back to regular cycling and this is just one of those "off" periods of time where your hormones are doing some shifting.  Then, you could go longer stretches of time where you'll get no period, no bleeding and wonder if this is it and get hit again with a regular period.  Don't judge one particular cycle as being something that "goes on forever" because it doesn't.  We all go through it differently and there will be normal periods still and then, this type of thing, then nothing.  You could also get very heavy periods after not having had one for awhile or, you could simply have periods that just consist of spotting as you are right now.  It wont' last forever.  You sound like what I've been through so, expect a bit of upheaval for awhile.  It will eventually end...likely over the next couple of years or sooner.  Hang in there and don't be afraid to go and talk to your doc about this.  She/he will give you info that will help to understand what is happening.  Hormonal swings during this portion of Life is normal and can be a wild ride but, it all will end.  Sounds like you're on your way.

this sounds kind of like what is happening to me, im 47, no period for 30-40 days and now just brown spotting and cramps, bloating, moodiness, headache, backache on and off, no real blood... i used to be regular 28 days without fail and a few days of PMS and that was it, good for the rest of the month, now it seems every few weeks im having cramps and pms like symptoms... but no real bleeding...i would rather have the bleeding then all the rest

i cant go on 10 years like this... pls tell me this is not true...
