Can kegel develop tightness in feet

I am 80. I am doing kegel exercises intermitantly since many years. I am still doing it caually.
Befor 5 years, I started getting pulsation sensation at the centre of the penis for few seconds. this continued for 3 days. After 3 days, I felt my legs heavy(sensation of heaviness-no pain. Again after 3 days these sensation stopped, heavinness of legs disappeared and it settled in my feet, I felt senastion like  I am waring tight socks for all the 24 hours. On physical neurological examinations, all reflexes were normal. No diabitis, no iron deficiency, no b12 deficiency. Somtimes tightness is more and somtimes it is aggravated. there is no hindrance in walking and doing my routing exercises. I tried all types therapy. I will be highly obliged if somone comes out with the solution of this problem. I understand from the forums, many elderly persons suffer from this syndrome.Important question is-whether kegel can cause this side effect? I sit on Rock Asan ( Vjarasan) for 15 minutes after meals. It is yoga practice. Can this posture can cause tightness of feet?

This discussion is related to can kegel exercises be harmful?.

Hi,
It appears to be a problem with the blood circulation to the lower legs, caused by the Vajrasana pose. Try reducing the duration to one or two minutes and see if the condition improves. Have a look at the following link:

http://www.sudokasana.co.uk/vajrasana/vajrasanaissues.html

Also do a few minutes of jogging if you do not have any heart problems or high blood pressure.

Dear Dalubaba,
That is an interesting observation, your urinary frequency during day and night is same, do you think, it was so all these days? As regards the excess urination for two nights in last December, I think you need not have to worry, if it was an isolated case for two days.only. There may be some special reason for event; by any chance, do you remember having made any changes in the dosage of alprazolam around that time? If afterwards the frequency were same for day and night, the problem  might be due to insomnia. So, if you find a better solution for your sleep disturbance, the night time urinary frequency should come down, may be you should discontinue slowly alprazolam in consultation with your doctor  and then replace it with a milder sleeping pill or an Ayurvedic solution. Also, since your sonography was done an year back, better to take another new test now and evaluate the prevoid and post void capacity of the bladder to make sure that the bladder capacity is not reduced.

There is no emergency for urination. As per three days approximate recordin 6 visiets at night ane 6 visits at day tieme.I will continue to record for few days more so that i can present it to urologist. I do not snore. My wife nefer told me that i snore.
I used to go to bathroom more no.of times than my friends while plying cards at night. This was for many years.
I do not have breathing problem. I do pranayam quite often.
I did experiment yesterday and to dayl. After urination i did some workout like moving pelvis forward and backward, then rotating clockwise and anticlockwise, then again i will try to urinate. to my surpruize, i got significan quantity of urine second time in one bathroom visit. This may indicate the bladder is not emptying completely, though sonography shows, it empties completely.
In bathroom visit, somtimes i take almost one miniute to start urination.
Aurvedic treatment is continuing. After a few days wait, i shall visit urologist.
Now i am doing vajrasan for one minute 5 times a day. as the website informs that one minute-vajrasan helps to cause a rush of blood circlation whereas 5 minute vajrasan can hamper blood circilation causing vericose vein.
Thank you for takeing time to help me.I visited the site you mentioned.. I had posted my urination problem there also.

Dear Dalubaba,

After my previous post, I have searched some more sites regarding Alprazolam side effects, but none of them talks about Frequent Urination at Night as one of the side effects. On the contrary, they mention reduced urine quantity as one of the less common side effects. Therefore, I suppose the drug atleast does not cause frequent urination as I expected. However, most of the sites mention Insomnia and Lack of Bladder Control ( urine incontinence ) as possible side effects. Obviously, these two together could mean frequent urination at night. Is your frequent urination caused by an urgency to urinate? Also, it is surprising that a drug used to get sound sleep could produce just the opposite effect. Incidentally, it is a drug specifically used for special cases of anxiety and some sites mention that it should not be used as a sleeping pill. But in all these cases, the daily dosage mentioned is between 3mg and 5 mg, but the dosage prescribed by your doctor being much less, may not cause these side effects.  Also, as you would be already knowing, incase you want to discontinue, you have to do so step by step only with reduced dosage, in consultation with your doctor.
Here is another reference from Medhelp itself, where the doctor explains how obstructive sleep patterns can produce frequent urination at night:

You could check if you suffer from some breathing problems like snoring  during sleep, which could  be disturbing your night sleep.

Thanks for instant reply analyzing the problem in a very rational way.in last December, for two consecutive nights I had nocturnal l urinary frequency of 10 to12. Hence i consulted a general practitioner who recommended sonography and urine testing.Thr report is as under.
LOWER ABDOMINAL SONOGRAPHY;
Kidneys are normal in size(approx.8.5cm) with smooth regular contour. Renal cortical echogenocity is within normal limilts and cortico central differentiation is adequate. No pelvicyeal dilation is seen'
Urethra are undilated.
Urinary bladder is normal in size, and contour with mild trebeuculated walls and echofree lumen
There is no significant post void residue.
Prostate measured 4.0x2.7x3.0cm=16grams with normal echo structure.
PSA was done in 4th August 07. it was1.5ng/ml. I got it done as i had back pain.
I will keep a daiary of 3 or 4 days before i go to urologist.
In fact i am under the treatment of Aurvedic doctor since 13th November. He is unaware of side effect of alprozolam. I will show your letter to Aurvedice doctor and a urologist and get everything done in a systematic way. After pondering over your reply, i suspect the side effect alprozolam-not allowing brain to produce ADH. However, i will go through all possibility.
I am taking alprozolam from 1991. I started with 0.25mg. and now I am taking 1.75. I tried everything to depend on it. I have taken Coffea a homeopathy medicine to replace alprozolam. I smoked for 50 years. Now since last years, I have stopped smoking. Now i try for alpro. let us hope i succeed.
I am interested in holistic therapies. I spend my time in surfing sites of holistic therapies. I am into yoga from my childhood. There were many gaps in yoga practice. I am regular since last 10 yrs. I am intersted in reading about yoga, meditation,Reiki, pranic healing, acupressure ane whaever comes before me. So if you have any suggestion please do give me a link. At present i am studying www.anmolmehta.com. Your last sentence is very accurate. I have always believed that holistic therapy is preventive and Allopathy is therapeutic in known diseases.hope to continue communication with you in MH.

Dear Dalubaba,

Frequent urination may be due to different reasons, since you have already tested for diabetes and bladder and prostate health, those may be ruled out.
As stated, do you get  frequent urination only at night, or during day time also? Do you drink more water at night?, like, every time you get up, you also drink a glass of water? In that case, you could reduce the amount of water taken at night. If you get up three to four times PER HOUR, you should definitely consult more doctors and find a solution. Even if it is three to four times during very night, it requires urgent medical investigation. From what I have collected from different sources, I will tell you some of the possibilities :

1. It is said that as we grow old, our body develops asymmetry of different parts and that contributes to various diseases. One such asymmetry causes the bladder  to be tilted to one side so that full urine is not drained off every time we urinate, thus effectively reducing the capacity of the bladder, necessitating frequent urination and it also can give rise to repeated UTIs. I would think that a wrong Vajrasana  pose without symmetrically balancing our body weight could cause this problem. I do not know when you have tested your bladder, was it tested for retained urine  volume, most likely, it would have been done. If this is the case, I suppose similar high frequency of urination should be there during day time also. But during day time, due to sweating on account of higher temperature and physical activities, the amount of urine produced could be less than at night.

2. Hyper active bladder is said to cause frequent urination during day and night. In this case, the bladder muscles get tight often, producing a feeling of fullness even when not full, whereas  normally they are supposed to be relaxed to hold the urine.

However, in both the above cases, the volume of urine during each urination will be relatively less.

3. If the frequent urination is only during night, there could be another reason. Our brain produces a hormone called AntiDiuretic Hormone (ADH) during sleep, which makes our kidneys to produce less urine while we sleep. Since you are faking sleep using the drug, which is a Central Nervous System  suppressor, at least in your case, I would think that  the drug  alprozolam may be preventing brain from producing ADH, which in turn causes the frequent urination. I could not get any supporting document from the net, but it does say that it can cause inappropriate ADH production, which could mean either MORE or LESS of ADH production.
My personal suggestion to you is to consult another specialist doctor in the field and find out the real reason and get cured. Also since you seem to be generally healthy, after solving the present problem of frequent urination, instead of  depending on drugs to get sleep, you could consult a qualified Ayurveda doctor for general health and sleep related issues. As a preventive medicine Ayurveda is the best. Needless to say that for detailed Diagnosis and fast curing of known diseases Allopathy is the best route.

Can kegeling stop excess night time frequency of urination?. prostate and bladder are ok, confirmed by sonography. PSA test for prostate is within normal range.
I take alprozolam 1.75 mg for sleep.I started with 0.25 Mg. in 1991 and now i am taking 1.75 mg.This gives me 4 or 5 hours interrupted sleep
I sleep at 11.p.m and get up at 2.a.m. I have to get up 3 to 4 times every hour, disturing my sleep. I do not have diabetes. no prostate problem, no bladder problem.can execssive urination and tightness of feet be related to each other. In other words, can vajrasan be the cause for nightly frequent urination?I was trying to stop dependance on alprozolam. I am addicted. If i increase the dose, I may have less no. of visit to bath room and could sleep for longer time.It will be an another obligation on me if you can ponder over this problem. I have consulted many doctors Including my family memberes who are medicos. Thanks for every thing.

I visited the sudokasana web site and found the same suggestion as yours. As duration of Vajrasan was much more and probably some mistake in keeping feet twisted resulted in these sensations.Kegel is similar to vajrolikriya in yoga. It has many benefits. However, i have never suspected vajrasan to cause this side effect. Thanks for your suggestion. The resolution of my problem may build up my morale.
